Why Jaguar’s new strategy feels like the wrong answer to the wrong problem.
For decades, Jaguar knew its audience.
Older, affluent buyers who wanted something British, elegant and quietly intimidating. Long bonnets, real engines, real presence.
The XJR embodied that perfectly — effortless speed and luxury without shouting.
The F-Type added noise, drama and theatre. You didn’t buy them because they were sensible. You bought them because they made you feel something.
Before the rebrand, sales were sliding — but largely because the line-up was ageing and models were being phased out with nothing ready to replace them. That context matters.
Since the rebrand, though, the numbers are stark:
• April 2025: just 49 Jaguar registrations across Europe
• Early 2025: global sales down nearly 50% year-on-year
• In many markets, showrooms were effectively empty — not because demand vanished, but because there was very little left to sell
Going electric isn’t the issue.
Going EV-only, all at once, while cutting off the existing customer base and creating a multi-year gap before new models arrive, is.
This doesn’t feel like evolution.
It feels like pressing pause on the brand and hoping a bold relaunch fixes everything later.
A phased approach — keeping something like a modern XJR successor or a hybrid F-Type alongside EVs — would’ve brought people forward instead of switching the lights off.
