Well done to LUCY WILKES on passing your driving test on the first attempt this week with just one minor driver fault. Fabulous comments from a clearly very impressed examiner and hugely deserved too! So proud of you Lucy and looking forward to taking you on the motorways soon 🤩🚘

We are home!

Sorry to all those who missed lessons and whose messages I haven’t had chance to reply to but I promise I will get round to you over the next week.

We got caught up in a lockdown at Dubai airport. A scary experience but we made it home precisely a week later than we should have!

Bear with me while we get back to normal and I’ll see you all in your regular lessons this week 😘

Do you know what to look for when choosing a driving instructor?

🚗 Approved driving instructors (ADIs) and trainee driving instructors must display a certificate in the windscreen of their vehicle when they are providing paid instruction.

They display:
🟢 a green certificate if they’re a fully qualified driving instructor
🩷 a pink certificate if they’re a trainee and are going through the qualification process

CHANGES TO HE DRIVING TEST BOOKING SYSTEM

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency has confirmed changes to the practical car driving test booking system that will significantly reduce the number of times a test can be changed.

From 31 March 2026, learners and Driver Trainers will be limited to two changes per practical car test, reduced from the current allowance of six. The change follows a DVSA consultation aimed at making the booking system fairer and more secure.

What is changing
Under the new rules, a test change includes:

changing the test date or time
changing the test centre
swapping a test between two learners
All practical car tests, whether booked by the learner or by a Driver Trainer, will be affected.

When the new rules come into force, all booked tests will have two available changes, regardless of how many amendments were made before 31 March 2026.

As 2025 is coming to an end and Elite wraps up for another year, can I thank you all for your ongoing support. It means so much to me being recommended by your friends who passed years before or having the pleasure of teaching all the siblings in one family ❤️ Or as I am now, teaching children of the adults I taught in my earlier years of becoming a driving instructor 😂 Running a small business will always have its ups and downs and this year has certainly had plenty of both.
Well done to all those that got their licence this year. Learning to drive is a funny old thing where some days you wonder if you’ll ever get it and then suddenly it all clicks into place and you wonder why you worried about it so much! For those on the journey……you’ll get there 🚗, I promise 🤩 Dealing with the huge backlog of tests with the DVSA has certainly been a challenge for us all but fingers crossed crossed we start to see some easing of the waiting list! It can only get better 🤞🏻

Thank you for all the gifts I have sitting under my tree and for all the kind words and appreciation, they mean a lot. Have yourselves a very Merry Christmas and cheers to an amazing 2026 🥂🍾

Congratulations to LAYLA BURGESS on passing your test this week on your first attempt. Just 3 minor faults too! What a great result and so deserved. Well done on your perseverance to improve week after week. It’s been a huge pleasure teaching you and I wish you all the very best in the future 🚗🤩

Thank you to mum Tracy too for great practice between lessons and for the beautiful flowers. They are very much appreciated and thank you for trusting me with teaching all of your wonderful girls to drive xx

🎓 Educational post ℹ️

Following on from our post yesterday regarding the vehicle travelling the wrong way. We would like to explain why we correctly used the term 'kilometers'.

Distance marker posts on UK motorways are placed at 100-meter intervals along the hard shoulder/side of the carriageway and show the distance in kilometers from a designated starting point. 2 types of signs are used dependent upon where you are (as shown).

They also include an arrow pointing to the nearest emergency telephone.

Should you breakdown, require assistance or spot an incident, this is the most accurate way of informing emergency services of your exact location.

Additionally, countdown markers are placed at exit slip roads at 300, 200, and 100-yard intervals to warn drivers of the upcoming junction.

We’re making some subtle but meaningful changes to the practical driving test. 🚗

You may have seen that we have been trialling changes to the driving test at 20 driving test centres.

As part of the trial, learners drove on routes containing more high-speed, rural roads during their driving test, where location allowed. Now, we are rolling out the changes to all driving test centres in Great Britain from 24 November 2025.

As well as increasing the amount of time spent on higher-speed roads, we are:

✅ reducing the number of stops during the test from 4 to 3
✅ lowering the frequency of emergency stop exercises from 1 in 3 tests to 1 in 7
✅ adding flexibility to the independent driving segment, allowing it to run for the full duration of the test

These changes are designed to help improve road safety by better replicating the conditions motorists face in the real world. They won’t affect the skills needed to take a driving test.
