Match report
Cricket finally got underway at The Butts, with the first team hosting a strong Stoke Gabriel team, with this seasons shirt sponsor, Ben Baldry, able to watch due to the Second teams match being called off early due to the Teignmouth pitch being waterlogged.
Adriaan started his captaincy tenure by losing the toss and being put into the field. Kingsbridge were forced to toil in the field, with wickets being hard to come by, and a changeless 140 being scored by Jack Tolley. Wickets were taken by Fred Weir, James Westlake, Adriaan Maxwell and Bhanu De Silva. Stoke batted out their 45 overs for 286.
Kingsbridge’s reply started badly with James Fletcher’s return not being a happy one after being bowled for 1, Richard Carr was ran out minutes later for 0, Fred Ford and James Westlake looked to steady the ship, however Freddie was bowled for 10 , Adrian Maxwell , James Ellis, Bhanu De Silva and Henry Rich all came and went, whilst James Westlake continued to build runs reaching 50, and carrying on whilst debutant Farzad Safi came out and scored a enterprising 22, at just 15 years old, and supported Westlake to his 100. However, Farzad fell to the quick gloves of Stoke’s keeper, and Westlake continued to bat the whole 45 overs shepherding the tail of Kingsbridge to reach 212 with James westlake scoring 118 NOT OUT.
Kingsbridge walk away with a losing 7 points and Stoke Gabriel having 19.
