🔥 BMW M2 Competition S55 – Preventative Maintenance & Performance Upgrades 🔥

This week at JD Garage & Performance Centre we have had a BMW M2 Competition for some preventative maintenance on the S55 platform – rod bearing replacement and a 4-pin crank hub.

During inspection, the original bearings showed clear signs of wear, highlighting exactly why these engines should not be ignored as mileage increases. Left unchecked, bearing wear can lead to catastrophic engine failure and a very expensive repair bill.

The S55 engine is an incredible performance unit, but rod bearing wear and crank hub slip are two well-known concerns. 🚨 Another “Tuned” Car, Another Serious Safety Issue… 🚨

This week we had a vehicle booked in that had been “tuned” by a local flash-and-dash mobile tuning company. Unfortunately, this is now the 7th vehicle we’ve seen with complaints and issues following work carried out by the same outfit.

The owner reported the car was repeatedly dropping into limp mode due to fuel pressure faults. Before even considering any tuning work, our process is always the same – diagnose the fault correctly and ensure the vehicle is mechanically fit and healthy.

Our first step was to return the vehicle to stock calibration to determine whether the issue was software related. However, it didn’t take long during a brief road test to realise something wasn’t right.

A quick inspection underneath revealed the real shocker…

📸 The rear shock absorber had completely failed and snapped.

At this point, performance tuning becomes irrelevant. A vehicle that isn’t safe at standard power levels certainly isn’t safe with increased power and torque.

This is exactly why we don’t simply plug in a laptop, take your money and send you on your way.

One of these NGK spark plugs are fake, do you know which one?

These almost ended up in a customers BMW M4, but we knew something wasn’t right as soon as they came out the box!

We’re seeing an increasing number of fake/counterfeit spark plugs being supplied online and through non-reputable sellers — and although they may look genuine, the damage they can cause certainly isn’t..

Poor quality spark plugs can lead to:

Another oil leak sorted this week at JD Garage & Performance Centre!

This BMW 640d came into us with oil leaking from the rocker cover gasket — a common issue on these engines that is usually detected by a visual check or the smell of burning oil.

We have carried out today..
✔️ Removal of the rocker cover
✔️ Replacement rocker cover gasket fitted
