Another late post but hey ho ! So not being happy with the bite the new titanium tensioner bolts had in the KTM SuperDuke 990R’s swingarm after removing the seized in originals - and after waiting a week on the delivery of a 250mm long 10.5mm HSS bit to drill the old threads out, we hit another hurdle in tapping the holes for the new 10.25 helicoils as we couldn’t get the tap wrench past the trailing edge of the swingarm and with no sockets fitting the square end of the taps shank, we pulled an old imperial brake spanner out of the box and used the 5/16 end to drive the tap home - job done !

Been a while (then some!) since we last posted anything but we’re still swinging the spanner’s here at F4F - couple of recent little jobs include popping a set of new lowered rear springs & shocks under the shop T4 and after much frustration managing to get a pair of seized chain tensioner bolts out of a KTM SuperDuke 990r swing-arm ! lowered springs springs and shocks SuperDuke bolts

Braking Bad ! So late Monday I pulled the front callipers off the Mk1 Cortina, dropped them in to Bigg Red Callipers of Worcester on Tuesday afternoon and collected them this afternoon (Thursday), fully refurbished - excellent service & incredible turn around time - highly recommended callipers

You know how it goes . . . Sunday afternoon and decided to pop and get tools sorted for a mobile job tomorrow and couldn’t resist the urge to tinker so had another play with the jets to get the Mk1 Cortina 1500 pre-crossflow ticking over nicely

Too many projects on the go, so just a quick update on the Mk1 ‘Tina - rock solid for a 55yr old vehicle; clutch master & slave (got to get a new clutch fork return spring instead of the temporary bungee cord); next job will be to overall the brakes and sort out some electrical connection issue

MMMM2 ~ My Memory Making Mk2 Consul 😎 - after sourcing & ordering parts for the Mk1 Cortina and having a bit of time on my hands this afternoon, Ford Fever kicked in and my thoughts landed on my 1961 Consul Mk2 which I worked on - including welding & spraying - on the driveway back in the late ‘80’s to make it my daily driver; this is still with me & on SORN and although it’s in need of a lot of TLC, I still dream of making it a 2 door V8 street rod (watch the movie ‘Two Lane Blacktop’ and you’ll get the idea); guess I need to find a big block FoMoCo V8 now 🤔

Another few hours spent on the ‘66 Tina today 🔧 compression tested all 4 pots & pressure was like that of a new engine; pulled & checked the plugs and all kicking out clean white sparks, while a quick check of the dizzy identified that the cap had pinched & sliced the insulation on the condenser wire so that was rectified, the tip of the rotor cleaned & brightened, and the dizzy cap popped back on without pinching the wire ! Then tackled the fuel line which was purged & cleaned from pump back to tank which identified a blockage at the tank. After removing the tank (in surprisingly good condition for 55 year old, removed the sender unit abs spent the next 2hrs cleaning the waxy~sandy gunk out of the pick up pipe and the tank itself, popped it all back in, primed the pump and fired the engine up, and then set about balancing the jets on carb 🔧 just before calling it a dry had a check of the clutch (solid pedal) so now need to source new master & slave cylinders 🔧 Unfortunately no photos of today’s progress due to hands being covered in petrol as brake fluid all day

What a difference a decent set of wheels make - gone are the 5 spoke alloys shod with 195/50 R15s (now for sale 💷) and replaced by 14” chromed smoothie steels wrapped in 205/60 R14s on the back and 175/60 R14s on the front (w/25mm spacers on front only) 🔧 I’m tempted to swap the front tyres out for 185/60’s - what do you think ?
