Honda CR250RZ 1979

A very original unrestored bike in excellent condition.

The so called ’Red Rocket’

I had one of these back in the old days so I know what is what.

This example of a Red Rocket had most of the original Honda features present including:
original front number plate
original side covers
original airbox including rubber intake manifold
original honda twist grip throttle
Alloy foot brake pedal
original rear mudguard
original expansion chamber / exhaust
original silencer
original alloy kick start
original alloy fuel tank

This bike selects all 5 gears
The engine has good cylinder compression and spark
the frame is in original paint and undamaged
the engine is in original paint

This bike is still in original Honda paint after 43 years this bike is too good to race.

Honda CR250 RA 1980 USA Model

Here is an excellent opportunity to restore this bike to how it sould be.

The story so far…
Honda never supplied this model to the UK in 1980. When i was a young dog I wanted this bike but they were not available. The motomotorcycle media in the USA reviwed the bike favourably.
My then current bike was was a 79 Honda CR 250RZ.

The 1980 model looks similar to the 79 model but is in reality a very differ bike. The frame is a twin down tube design similar to The Honda Grand Prix ‘works’ bike or 1979. It looked like the then word champion Graham Noyce’s RC 450 works bike.

The bike was specially imported from the USA and is in excellent condition. It has been stored inside since purchase.

The frame has not been repaired and appears to be undamaged (see photos) I have seen many Honda frames suffering from craked welds on the foot peg mount a known weak point.

The engine is in excellent original condition still in its original paint. There is no damage from chain derailment at the front sprocket.

the engine selects all 5 gears properly
has good compression and spark.
cylinder and cylinder head fins intact and not damaged.

the cylinder is CHROME PLATED not an iron liner. I would recommend Nikasil coating if you want to race as the original piston rings for chrome bores are no linger available.

the bike would love to have new plastic to look pretty again. The plastic tank would benefit from some tlc to remove white oxide from UV light.

I have all the parts you need in stock to make this bike either a racer or just to admire.

43mm front forks (essential if you want to race)
new rear shocks or 1980 web head Ohlins rebuilt using new rods and bodies.

Showroom condition display bike too good to get dirty.

This bike is 100% original, unrestored looking as good as the day it was made. This bike has been in my personal collection and dry stored.

This bike has all the original Honda parts that cost a fortune to buy today the plastic is original not reproduction.
Original front number plate with original yellow paint.
Original exhaust and silencer.

Rear tyre wear looks live this bike has only ever been used on tarmac not dirt.

Hard to believe his bike is 41 years old.
