DID YOU KNOW? Your tyre size tells you a lot more than just how big the tyre is.
You may have seen a code on the side of your tyre that looks something like:
225/40 R18 92Y XL
Every part of that code means something.
225 = The tyre width.
40 = The tyre profile.
R18 = The construction and wheel size.
92 = The load index.
Y = The speed rating.
XL = Extra Load.
There is also another important marking on the tyre called the DOT code.
The final four digits of the DOT code tell you when the tyre was manufactured. For example, 2324 means the tyre was made in week 23 of 2024.
This can be useful when checking the age of a tyre, although age alone does not tell you whether a tyre needs replacing. Condition, cracking, damage, tread depth and how the tyre has been stored all matter as well.
If you need a new tyre and you're not sure what size you need, have a look at the sidewall. Send us the full tyre size and ratings, or simply send us a clear photo of the tyre and we can check it for you.
Your vehicle registration can also help us double-check the correct specification.
