So after a year we finally got time to get the sign up on the workshop
It’s been a busy couple of weeks with MOT and service work and 12 A/C jobs
Today we had a fiesta in with poor a/c at idle after using the test equipment we diagnosed a faulty compressor not providing the correct high pressure once the system was running.

We had a vehicle on the ramp today to look at brake noise, the photos below show what happens if you don’t maintain your brake system. The vehicle needed both discs and pads mainly due to lack of maintenance resulting is seized brake pads in there housing. The wear indicator noise had also been ignored so the discs which would have been ok were ruined on the rear.
You can see the contact braking surface is massively reduced on the discs and the rust build up on the outer disc surface. The performance of the brakes will be significantly reduced risking your safety
Brakes should be serviced on a regular bases and if your car has sat for long periods a strip it and clean is recommend.

While we are all stuck at home during this lockdown period so are our vehicles.
For some of you your cars may have not moved for weeks and this can cause problems. Here are a few tips to help keep your car in good condition and save on costly bills when we all return to normal.

BATTERIES
Your car battery is maintained while the car is running many modern cars have smart charging systems.

- running your car on the drive for 10-15 minutes with everything turned off will help top the charge up in the battery this is worth doing every couple
Of weeks (avoid short periods of running )

BRAKES
Your car brakes are important for your safety, these cans seize and rust while your vehicle sits. This can cause damage to discs and affect efficiency

- take the car for a short drive gently apply the brake pedal this will help clean off rust and free brake pads
If you store your car in the garage or off the road behind a gate on flat ground you may wish to leave the car in gear and handbrake off HOWEVER THIS IS ONLY OK IF THE CAR IS OFF THE ROAD AND WHEELS ARE CHOCKED SAFLEY I’ve seen a few posts just saying leave it off where ever you store the car left like this on the road is a safety risk please don’t do this.

TYRES
Flat or under inflated tyres can result is excessive wear and internal damage you can’t see which could result in a blowout or failure

- check all tyres pressure before moving the car and inflate if required we recommend staying on top of this weekly to save your arms and legs if you are using a manual pump

FLUID LEVELS

Your vehicles has several fluids which are key to safety and performance it’s worth checking all of these in accordance with the manufacturers hand book before using the car if its stood for a long period ( if you have any questions on this or have no hand book please feel free to Contact us and we will be happy to help)

As lock down has turned every day into a possible day off had some free time today to service this pit bike for a chap who dropped it off a couple of weeks ago,
Plug change
Valve clearances adjusted
Oil changed
Filters cleaned out
Brakes stripped and cleaned
Cables lubricated
Carb clean
Etc
But got me thinking lots of this is basic maintenance which could be done at home with a simple tool kit and the right level of confidence so for anyone interested in doing there own maintenance I’d be happy to teach the basics anyone Interested please contact me via the face book page to discuss costs etc
