Repeat customer back in with another vehicle — this time a BMW X5 3.0 N57 showing poor running conditions, heavy grey smoke, rough idle, and coolant temperatures not reaching operating level.

Full diagnostic scan carried out to establish a clear baseline. This led us straight into an injector leak-off test, which confirmed injector 3 had completely failed, with injector 1 also beginning to deteriorate.

New injectors have been ordered and the vehicle has been stripped down ready for installation.

Cooling issue traced to a faulty thermostat, which will also be replaced, along with a failed glow plug module identified during testing.

All mechanical faults will be fully resolved before any software calibration is carried out — no point tuning over underlying issues.

Clean fix first. Power and reliability second.

This one came very close to being destroyed…

Customer booked this 2017 SEAT Leon 1.6 TDI DDYA in with the EML on and a serious lack of power. Fault codes were showing turbo underboost, so we carried out live data logging to compare requested boost vs actual boost — and there was a massive lack of boost pressure.

First step was a full smoke test to check for boost leaks, but no leaks were found. Air intake was then removed to inspect the turbo, where we found the turbo had completely seized solid.

To make matters worse, there was oil throughout the intake system and the engine oil level was practically non-existent. We later found out the vehicle hadn’t had a service in over 4 years.

Due to how thick, slimy and congealed the oil had become, we made the decision to go further and remove the sump for inspection. The sump and oil filter were removed and a full strip-down and clean carried out to remove all sludge build-up. All oil feed and return lines have been replaced, a DPF & EGR solution applied, and a brand new turbo is now ready to go back on.

This customer got very lucky — another few miles and this engine could have easily been completely destroyed.

Customer Build Update 🔧🔥

This Volkswagen Caddy 1.6 TDI fitted with the PCR 2.1 ECU came in today for a full software calibration package.

From factory these come in around 105BHP, but after installing our custom Stage 1 calibration we’re seeing gains of around +45BHP with a huge improvement in drivability, torque delivery and overall responsiveness 💨

BMW 335i Dyno Session: Why Cooling Matters 📉🌡️

We had this 335i on the rollers today for some power runs. Running a Stage 2 tune and a Stage 3 xHP Flash map, it put down a solid 388 BHP.

While a respectable number, it’s slightly under the 400+ BHP we typically see from this setup. Our job isn't just to read the numbers, but to understand them—so we dove into the data logs. 💻

The Diagnosis: Heat soak. The logs showed the ECU pulling ignition timing back as intake temperatures climbed. Without the right hardware to shed that heat, the software can't safely give its all.

The Solution: We’ve advised the customer on a high-end FMIC (Front Mount Intercooler) and a dedicated Cold Air Intake setup. Once these are installed, this will finally be able to hold its full potential without the heat holding it back!
