If you are not going to need your car for the next month, consider SORNing it and getting a refund on the road tax. If you are a two car family, could you go down to one during the shutdown measures? As an MOT testing station, I am awaiting notification from DVSA on the continuing operation of the MOT Testing Scheme. They have already suspended testing on HGVs for 3 months, so they must be considering this move for normal car MOTs too. In the meantime we are open for MOTs, but please consider if this is essential in your circumstance.

We are open and ready to serve our customers and keep you mobile!

If you are vulnerable because of age or health then please call us to discuss how we can help. We can arrange socially distanced drop off and collection at the garage or we may be able to collect and deliver your car from home. If you need a waiting appointment we can offer an isolated waiting area and disinfect the contact surfaces inside your car when we finish.

If you are self isolating because you have symptoms then please do not come to the garage. We may be able to make arrangements to address any car related concerns, please do call us.

We are asking that we have no more than 2 people in reception at any time and that people keep a 2m distance between themselves at all times. Please do not lean on or over the reception counter.

If we are giving you a lift, please use the back seats and enjoy the ride, rather than sitting in the front seat.

Disinfectant wipes and sprays are available. Ideally customers would wipe down their car contact surfaces prior to hand over to us but we are still working out how this can be done practically.

The safety and wellfare of our staff is also a top priority so please bear with us if our normal service is altered.

Is you car TPMS system working okay? Many cars now have tyre pressure monitoring systems and they are on all new cars from 2014. We can sort out any problems that may occur!

The systems consist of a battery powered transmitter in each wheel attached to the inside of the valve. Tyre pressure and temperature are transmitted to the car computer and the driver is alerted if there is a problem. The battery life is about 7 years and being a sealed unit, they need replacing when out of juice. Older units also have metal valves rather than rubber, and these can corrode leading to a loss of pressure or in the worst case, the valve snapping off.

Our diagnostic tool reads each sensor so we know what is going on and we can talk to the main car computer to keep everything synchronised. We keep a stock of programmable sensors that will cost a fraction of the main dealer prices. We can fit these in our tyre bay and programme all the necessary electronics.

For new cars the TMPS system must be working correctly for the MOT test so we can sort out any problems and keep you street legal. Give us a call on 02380845050 if we can help.

Car for Sale: Ford Fiesta Ghia 1999.
Following the Dibden Mechanix course this car is now for sale. During the course this car has been serviced and has passed the MOT Test. It has just returned from the Beaulieu Nation Motor Museum where it was displayed to celebrate the hard work of the young people on the course. The car is pretty low mileage at 88,000miles and it even has air conditioning. It is the 1.25 Zetex 16v petrol engine . We are looking for offers in the region of £600 which will go towards running another course. The Mechanix Project was sponsored by Haynes, Drapers Tools, Exxon Mobil, St. Andrews Church, local Lions and Rotary Clubs, Totton College and supported by a group of volunteers.
