Double-glazed throughout, gas combi central heating, extra insulation and lagged pipes as standard. These aren't luxury additions on a good quality unit; they're built in from the factory. Four signs it's time to sell your static caravan.

You haven't used it in over a year. It sounds obvious but a lot of people hold onto a caravan out of habit rather than need, while pitch fees and insurance quietly add up in the background.

The costs are outweighing the benefits. Maintenance, annual fees, insurance and the occasional repair bill can mount up quickly on a unit that isn't earning its keep.

It's getting older and you haven't kept on top of it. Caravans that sit unused deteriorate faster than ones that are lived in and maintained. Selling sooner rather than later usually means a better price.

Your circumstances have changed. The build is finished, the kids have moved out, the business no longer needs it. Sometimes the caravan has simply done its job.

Think you can't afford a static caravan? It might be worth looking again.

For £5,000 to £10,000 you can get a practical two or three bedroom caravan with a fitted kitchen, proper lounge and bathroom. Sometimes double glazing too. The key is knowing what to look for and what to avoid.

Condition and layout matter more than age. An older, well-maintained caravan from a reputable manufacturer will often be a better buy than a newer model that needs work. What you do want to watch out for is damp, soft flooring, water ingress, or DIY alterations to gas and electrics. Those are the things that turn a bargain into a problem.

Five questions to ask before you buy a static caravan.

Can it actually get onto your land? Gate widths, soft ground, overhanging trees and narrow lanes all affect whether a unit can be delivered and sited. Worth checking early.

Do you need planning permission? Depending on your intended use, you may need to speak to your local planning authority before anything goes on site. Don't skip this step.

What spec do you actually need? If it's year-round use, double glazing and central heating aren't optional. If it's short-term hire during a build, you can be more flexible.

New or used? Used units from reputable manufacturers offer strong value. New units give you the latest spec and a warranty. Both can work well depending on your budget and intended use.

Who is going to site it? Transport and siting is a job for people who know what they're doing. We handle it within 100 miles of Horsham, included in the price for any caravan purchased from us.
