Anglesey County Council strike again.

Going from Newry at the start of Landsend, it goes to a 30mph zone. But there are no more speed limit signs after that point. Meaning that if I was to turn left at the traffic lights on the bridge and go along London Road, all around Morawelon, passed Tesco or past both SCHOOLS in Kingsland, technically I'm still in a 30mph speed limit zone until I pass McDonald's and get to the traffic lights again where there is a 20mph sign. From this point, it doesn't matter if I go straight on towards Landsend or turn right over the bridge and do the exact same drive that I've just done, technically I'm in a 20mph speed limit zone on exactly the same roads that I was just doing 30mph on 5 minutes prior.

Why is this confusing and unfair?
Because if I pass the 30mph sign on Landsend, go around the roundabout by the port and back down Landsend at 30mph, I'm still abiding by the law and the last speed limit sign that I passed. BUT if I go up Landsend at 30mph, go all the way around the McDonald's roundabout and back down Landsend at 30mph, I am now breaking the speed limit by 10mph because there is a 20mph speed limit sign just before the traffic lights.

So how does a Police Officer know who to fine? How does he/she know what speed to set their speed camera gun to? How do they know whether you've done a loop around Lidls or a Loop around Asda? They don't know which sign you passed last. So if a road is a 30mph then it should be 30mph no matter which direction you've come from.

Traffic could turn right up towards town and technically they're still in a 30mph zone because there arent any signs for the town centre, the high school etc. But traffic coming from South Stack is told to do 20mph as they enter Llaingoch.

So you've got some people who are technically in a 20mph speed limit zone and some people who are technically in a 30mph speed limit zone travelling on the same roads in the same direction. How does that make sense? How are pedestrians supposed to judge the speed of traffic when every other car is abiding by different speed limit signs. How can a Police Officer be sure that the fine he/she is issuing is actually deserving.

I'm writing this post because I'm concerned for people's safety. Both drivers and pedestrians don't know what to do. I also don't think it's fair for people to receive fines for driving at a speed they've been TOLD to drive at. Of course, there has to be an element of common sense. If you're driving down a busy road and it's peak times outside a school, then you do a reduced speed. But the signs are meant to take the guess work out of things. At the moment, they're causing more confusion than benefit.

Traffic travelling in the same direction but at different speeds is a recipe for drivers becoming frustrated at other drivers because one has been told they're in a 20mph zone and the other has been told they're in a 30mph zone. This is only going to result in tailgating, dangerous overtakes and ultimately collisions or even worse, pedestrians being struck. Traffic needs to flow, I don't think Anglesey Council quite understand that. People shouldn't be confused when it comes to road safety, the signage should be clear and planned properly. Do these people even leave the office to go and see if what they're doing is actually going to help or cause danger?

Of course, some roads have different speed limits in both directions but everyone should be made aware of the speed limit for their direcrion by clear signage. NOT have one road join at 20mph and then another road join at 30mph in the same direction.

I've been in contact with both the Police and the Council and neither of them were able to answer my questions.

Please share so that people are aware.
