A little bit about me — and Swish Customs 👋

I thought it was about time I introduced myself properly and told you a little bit about the person behind Swish Customs.

I’ve been in upholstery for pretty much my whole adult life, starting out as an apprentice and studying at a specialist trade college in Salisbury. It was a fantastic place to learn, with only six students in our class and a real focus on traditional, quality craftsmanship. I spent time learning traditional upholstery using materials such as horsehair and building the foundations of the standards I still have today.

After qualifying, my career took me in a slightly different direction, leading me into marine upholstery, which has been a huge part of my working life for around 30 years.

I spent around 13 years located at Brooms Boats in Brundall, working alongside some incredibly skilled boat builders and tradespeople and helping to build their luxury new-build boats from the upholstery side. It was a fantastic experience being part of the whole build process and seeing how all the different elements of a quality boat came together.

I then moved to Broads Haven Boat Covers on the Norfolk broads, where I spent a further 14 years running their boat cover and upholstery department, working on boats for their private customers as well as helping with their new-build boats.

I taught myself the skills needed to make boat canopies and covers to a high standard, and found myself being thrown into all sorts of jobs over the years — which is probably where I learnt that there isn’t much you can’t work out when you’re given a challenge! 😂

Working on boats such as Brooms and Haines, and many other luxury cruisers, gave me an enormous amount of experience with different materials, shapes, designs and, most importantly, the importance of getting the finished job right.

I eventually decided it was time to do things for myself and Swish Customs was born,

“Since starting Swish Customs, I’ve also continued to build on my skills, taking myself off to do an automotive upholstery course as well as a leather spraying and repair course. I’m a big believer that you never stop learning, and I’m always looking for ways to improve what I can offer and take on new challenges.”

These days I specialise in marine and automotive upholstery, with a real focus on custom work and bespoke projects. I particularly enjoy working with customers who have their own ideas and turning those ideas into something completely unique.

I’m also very lucky to have my partner Paul as a big part of Swish Customs. He’s a hugely talented boat builder, and between us we can take on much more than upholstery alone — particularly when it comes to van conversions, woodwork and bigger custom projects. We make a pretty good team!

So, although Swish Customs is still growing, the experience behind it certainly isn’t new. I’ve spent decades learning my trade, solving problems, working with some brilliant people and, occasionally, being thrown in at the deep end and figuring it out! 😂

Quality, attention to detail and doing a job properly have always mattered to me, and that’s what I want to bring to every project that comes through the door.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Swish Customs so far. ❤️ It really does mean a lot.

If you’ve got a custom upholstery or bespoke project, whether it’s marine, automotive or something a little bit different, I’d love to hear your ideas.

You bring the idea — we’ll see what we can create.

T6 Interior Upgrade 🚐🔥

This customer’s pride and joy — a seriously good-looking T6, built around MTB Vans Furniture and designed with one very important thing in mind… getting his bike in there! 🚵‍♂️

We’ve given the interior a full Swish Customs makeover, starting with the single captain’s seat, upgraded with our Sport Back foam for a sportier look and better support.

The upholstery is a mix of marine faux leather, classic herringbone flat-weave fabric and carbon Alcantara suede, finished with contrasting grey stitching.

The matching double seat has had the same treatment, and at the rear we’ve reworked the cushion sizes to suit the existing seating-to-bed setup, making everything fit better, look neater and, importantly, store away much more easily when the bed is in use.

All while keeping plenty of room for his pride and joy on two wheels. 👌

A cracking T6, a great layout and a few Swish Customs touches to finish it off.

That’s one way to make a van your own. 😎

A little bit different for this Caddy… 😎

Our first-ever set of barn door storage bags for a caddy, made in carbon teamed with bright red Tenara contrast stitching. 🖤❤️

These were made to match the cushions we completed previously, tying the whole Caddy setup together nicely.

They’re not just a pretty face either — these things are brilliant for camping, making use of all that dead space on the barn doors and giving you somewhere handy to stash all those bits and bobs.

Practical, smart and just a little bit funky.
Another little Swish Customs creation. 🔥✂️💙🖤

💚 Back for Stage Two… and what a transformation! 💚

This VW T4 Doka first came to us for its front seats, and now it’s back to complete the next stage of its interior makeover.

The front door cards were retrimmed in carbon-effect vinyl with green GTI check and twin-stitch detailing. The customer had sourced a very rare pair of lower speaker pockets, which we fitted and trimmed to match for a seamless factory-style finish.

At the rear, we built a completely bespoke pair of door cards with hidden fixings, finished in matching carbon-effect vinyl and GTI check. To make them that little bit different, we added custom skateboard wheel door pulls and an integrated cup holder.

To finish the interior, we fitted a new carpet-trimmed headlining panel and rear window pod. And just for a bit of fun, we embossed DOKA into the headlining – a subtle detail that makes this build even more unique.

A huge thank you to these fantastic customers for trusting us with their pride and joy once again. We’re delighted they love the finished result, and we can’t wait to see this Doka out on the road! 💚

Another bespoke interior completed at Swish Customs 🔥

This time we’ve transformed a set of VW T5.1 Kombi rear seats to perfectly complement the customer’s new Audi S-Line front seats.

We matched the theme throughout with black leather, and carbon Alcantara, finished off with silver twin stitching and custom diamond quilted centres.

The diamond stitching was a real challenge, especially getting everything to line up perfectly on the centreline by hand — but the finished result speaks for itself. A lot of time, patience and attention to detail has gone into these, and we’re really proud of how they’ve turned out.

We also fitted the New “Customer supplied” Audi front seats, modifying and adjusting the runners so they could still swivel correctly while maintaining the perfect seating position.

A custom conversion with Swish Quality finish🤩👌

VW Caddy Custom Camper Build 🔥

A unique VW Caddy project finished and ready for the 2026 show season.

The owner has put a huge amount of time and effort into this build himself, creating a clever three-quarter width bed system, custom bike rack, interior storage and finishing touches throughout the van.

Our contribution was the upholstery, with a full set of bespoke cushions trimmed in soft grey suede fabric, carbon fibre borders and bright red contrast stitching to tie everything together and complement the van’s interior styling.

A great example of what can be achieved when a customer combines their own craftsmanship with a little help from Swish Customs.

Looking forward to seeing this one out on the show circuit this year! 🚐👌🤩 can be seen @ this coming weekend!!
