Yesterday, we were delighted to welcome IMI members from across the automotive industry to the IMI Scotland Regional member event, including employers, garages, training providers and industry stakeholders.

The forum provided a valuable opportunity to connect with industry colleagues and explore some of the key opportunities and challenges shaping our sector, from leadership and skills development to decarbonisation and the future of automotive careers.

The automotive sector is facing a perfect storm of workforce shortages, an ageing vehicle parc and rapid technological change.

Without targeted investment, these pressures risk slowing technology adoption, constraining productivity and undermining road user confidence.

Ahead of the Autumn Budget, the IMI is calling on government to recognise the vital role that a skilled and competent automotive workforce plays in keeping the UK moving safely.

Our key asks include reforming skills funding and the Growth & Skills Levy, establishing a dedicated Automotive Workforce Investment Fund, supporting investment through IMI TechSafe, and making workforce readiness an explicit part of net zero transport policy.

Targeted action now will help employers access the skills they need, support economic growth and ensure the workforce is ready for increasingly complex vehicle technologies.

The countdown is on for the IMI Skills Competition Heavy Vehicle Technology Final.

This week, six of the UK's most talented heavy vehicle apprentices will put their skills to the test as they compete for first place.

In this video, Andy Webb, Scania Apprenticeship Programme Manager, shares why competitions like these are so important, not only for apprentices to showcase their technical abilities, but for the industry to highlight the talent, innovation, and expertise driving its future.
