Links Driving School Retired Traffic Police Sergeant,
Member of Institute of Advanced Motorists,
RoSPA Gold and DIA member I have also featured in the BBC Traffic Cops TV series.

I retired from Hertfordshire Constabulary after 30years service. I was a Police Constable and then a Sergeant on the Road Policing Unit gaining 23+ years experience of dealing with the causes and the subsequent consequences of serious and fatal collisions across Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire. I attended many schools and colleges delivering road safety advice as well as working closely alongside the various Road Safety Units. The move into driving instruction is a natural progression, allowing me to share the knowledge and experience that I gained whilst being a Traffic Police Officer; my ultimate aim being to promote 'safe driving for life.'

Congratulations to Matt on completing a 4 hour trailer safety course this morning using his company trailer. Matt had a problem reversing so we concentrated on various reversing scenarios off road as well in a quiet estate.
After a few initial struggles his confidence improved and it became easier for him. By the end of the session he felt more comfortable so more practice was advised. Also covered H&S, trailer maintenance and hitching and unhitching routines.

Congratulations to Jonathan on completing a 4 hour trailer safety course this morning using his company trailer. No experience using trailer’s so we concentrated on different aspects of reversing, trailer maintenance as well as hitching up and off. Drove on different road networks and provided valuable safety . Confidence was greatly improved by the end of the session, so keep practicing.

Road deaths in rural areas for 2025 have increased hugely to 60% with 6% of deaths occurring on motorway networks.
You must treat country roads with respect and continually risk assess into the future. The big word here is ANTICIPATION! Remember rules 125 and 126 of the Highway Code. tips
