Watch out and be aware. And report them if you see them ….

⚠️ 🚗 Warning to shoppers in the area, we have had reports of a man dressed as a traffic enforcement officer attempting to fine people in car parks near Halfords and Tesco.

One driver was asked to pay a fine using a bank card, which then went missing. Please be extremely suspicious if you are approached in this manner.

If you are asked to pay an on-the-spot fine in a car park, decline and request a penalty notice. If you are suspicious about the authenticity of the notice, do not pay it until you have verified it with your local council.

Police appeal after incident in Boxmoor

Dear Watch Member,

Detectives are appealing for witnesses, information and dash cam footage following an incident in the Boxmoor area on Thursday 11 January.

It was reported that a woman was walking along St John’s Road, sometime between 4am and 4.20am, when she saw a white/light coloured car drive past her and pull into Sebright Road before stopping.

The woman was then approached by an unknown male, who is believed to have been driving the vehicle. He grabbed her and verbally threatened her to get into his car.

The woman sought help and police were called.

The man is described as being white and around 5ft 6in tall. He was wearing a dark coloured, knee-length parka coat with a fur trimmed hood, which was worn up during the incident, and spoke with a local accent.

Detective Inspector Jason Finnegan from the Dacorum Local Crime Unit said: “This was a very frightening ordeal for the victim who continues to be supported at this time.

“We understand that this incident will also cause a great deal of worry among the local community. I’d like to reassure people that we are doing all we can to trace this man as a matter of urgency. This includes house to house enquiries, a review of CCTV and other police tactics. Proactive patrols are also being carried out.

“As part of our ongoing enquiries, we’re also appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to please come forward.

“Were you driving in the area around the time? Did you see a medium-sized, white or light-coloured car travelling around? We’d be particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have captured dash cam, doorbell camera or CCTV footage.

“Even something that may seem insignificant could be prove key to progressing the investigation, so please get in touch. Thank you.”

Important for Boxmoor …

We have an important update! We had a short catch up recently with London & Continental Railways' preferred development partner, Cityheart, and in the meeting their Development Director shared some alarming news: the plans being prepared for the station site will have around 600 residential units and include a 12-STOREY HIGH-RISE TOWER, plus smaller 'finger' towers of at least six storeys.
We think this would be a disaster, both for the local landscape and for the already busy infrastructure along London Road and the surrounding environs.
Their next steps will be to develop their design and progress a planning application with DBC, so we have to get ready to oppose this. We definitely have a big fight on our hands so if you can offer any skills or time to aid our campaign against high-rise development at the station site please get in touch via the www.fourandnomore.org website.
Please also share this post to help us gather as much support as we can across Hemel and Boxmoor.
And just to stress, this group is NOT against development of the station site, but we ARE against an out-of-place, ugly high-rise development. Who's with us?!

FISHERY ROAD CROSSING. The public meeting concluded that a crossing is necessary especially for vulnerable pedestrians. In the last Facebook poll, a majority felt that a crossing north of the canal near the housing was preferable. Too near the canal is dangerous and too near the roundabout risks being wasteful as in time the roundabout will be remodelled. Our consultations with HCC engineers offers the following choice. Let us know what you think in a poll that follows... https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=585139883762433&id=100067992781388

FYI … The Boxmoor Drive Save initiative led by Cllr William Allen and a small team of volunteers, has been out five times in Gravel Hill Terrace, a section of the notorious “rat run” between Northridge Way and Glenview Road, monitoring the speed of motorists using a Radar speed detection device, provided by the Hertfordshire Community Police, which displays both the vehicle speed, and either a smiley or frowning face, depending on the speed of the passing vehicle.

During these visits 20% of the motorists were found to have exceeded the 30 mph speed limit (in excess of 36 mph). Fourteen offending motorists to-date have received a cautionary reminder, that speeding endangers the lives of others, as well as their own.

Whilst no further action will be taken, the constabulary asks for their cooperation, to ensure that there are no further reports of their registered vehicle speeding on Hertfordshire Highways.

To have an effective roll out of this scheme, and address speeding cars in Boxmoor, MORE VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED.

Particularly, as these roadside speed checks will be extended to include Green End Road (Southside) in September.

If you would like to be involved, Cllr William Allen would welcome your support by contacting him on 07766 145129
