🚗 4 YEARS QUALIFIED AS AN ADI! 🎉

Today I renewed my ADI badge, and it got me reflecting on what I’ve achieved over the last 4 years.

I’ve come a long way since working under a franchise, taking the leap to become independent and build my own business.

Along the way, I’ve continued to develop myself as an instructor, including:

✅ A qualification in supporting people with ADHD to learn to drive
✅ My Advanced Driving Certificate through IAM RoadSmart
✅ My SCQF Level 7 Professional Diploma in Coaching and Behavioural Change for Safer Driving — probably my proudest achievement.

The last one in particular has changed the way I approach driver training. It’s helped me understand that teaching someone to drive is about much more than simply preparing them for a test. It’s about the person behind the wheel, their behaviours, mindset and ultimately helping them become safer drivers for life.

Qualifying as an ADI shouldn’t be the end of your learning journey — it should be the beginning.

There is always something new to learn, a skill to develop or a different way of approaching our role as instructors.

Four years in, I’m still learning, still developing and still looking for ways to improve what I offer my learners.

I’m excited to see what I can achieve over the next 4 years! 🚗💙

The biggest lesson on this drive wasn’t about a 20mph speed limit… it was about handling pressure.

Recently, one of my learners slowed correctly to 20mph outside a school during the flashing lights. The reaction from some drivers behind?

🚗 Tailgating.
🚗 Undertaking.
🚗 Trying to pressure her into driving faster.

When we pulled over, I didn’t tell her what she should have done. I asked questions instead.

By the end of the conversation, she’d reached her own conclusion:

“I’m responsible for getting myself and my passengers home safely, so I need to ignore the pressure from others.”

That’s the power of coaching. We aren’t just teaching people to pass a driving test—we’re helping them develop the confidence and judgement to make safe decisions for life.

It’s also a great reminder for parents. Conversations about peer pressure, patience and making good decisions are every bit as important as practising manoeuvres.

Sometimes the greatest learning opportunity isn’t a mistake… it’s the pressure that was resisted.

Safe driving isn’t just about where your eyes are looking.

It’s about where your mind is.

Tunnel vision keeps your attention fixed directly ahead.

Active scanning helps you spot hazards, read the road and plan earlier.

The wider your awareness, the more time you have to make good decisions.

Don’t just look ahead.

Look around. Think ahead. Stay in control.

Confidence says: “I’ve got this.”

Competence says: “I’ve practised this.”

The safest drivers develop both.

Confidence without competence can lead to risk.

Competence without confidence can lead to hesitation.

The key is building confidence on a foundation of skill, experience, and good decision-making.

Changes to driving test booking happening today. ⚠️

From today (9 June), if you move your driving test, you can only move it to one of the 3 nearest test centres to where it's currently booked.

This is the remaining change we committed to make by the end of Spring 2026:

📅 31 March — test changes limited to 2 per booking

🔒 12 May — only learners can book, change or cancel their own test

📍 9 June — test moves limited to 3 nearest centres

Since 12 May, we've suspended 3605 accounts for breaking the rules and reported apps to app stores for removal. We're not stopping there.
