Test bookings are changing, are you ready?

The DVSA are changing the way tests are booked and amended in an attempt to improve the wait times. What does this mean if you are currently learning to drive and how might it affect you? I’ve written a blog in the comments section.

🚗 Can you take your driving test in someone else’s car?

With driving test wait times around 5–6 months, more learners are reaching their test date without an instructor available.

So a question I hear a lot is:

“Can I just take the test in my mum’s / partner’s / friend’s car?”

The short answer is yes — but only if the car meets strict DVSA rules.

Things like:
• Correct insurance
• No warning lights
• An extra interior mirror for the examiner
• L-plates fitted properly
• And the car must be suitable for a test

Many people turn up on test day and get turned away before the test even starts because the car doesn’t meet the requirements.
