Motorway Lessons – Learners & Full Licence Holders (Refresher)
Motorway lessons are available for learners (with a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor) and full licence holders who want to build confidence or refresh their skills.
Motorway tuition is suitable for all ages.
If the thought of motorway driving worries you, or you avoid them altogether and add hours to your journey, structured motorway tuition will give you the skills, knowledge, and confidence to use these roads safely.
If you’ve been involved in a motorway accident, I can also help you rebuild confidence and become a calmer, safer driver.
Why motorway tuition matters
Motorways are busy, high-speed, multi-lane roads:
No pedestrians or crossings
Cyclists and motorcycles under 50cc are not permitted
Different speed limits apply to coaches and large goods vehicles
Motorway driving is not part of the driving test
Learners may only practice on motorways with a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor
For this reason, motorway training is strongly recommended after passing your test.
How many lessons will I need?
As lessons start from Hastings / St Leonards, a 4-hour session is required to allow enough driving time to properly develop motorway skills.
A short comfort break will be taken halfway through.

Helping an Emergency Blue Light Vehicle...

What should I do if I'm at a red light and an emergency vehicle needs to get through?

We get asked this quite a lot so hopefully this explains.

Emergency 'blue light' vehicles have three exemptions in law. Speed limits, red lights and keep left signs.

If we are looking to make progress with blue lights and siren, we are asking you to let us through.

If possible, move over to somewhere safe and allow us past. There's no need to mount kerbs or verges or make sudden moves. We won't come past until we know you have seen us.

If you are at a red light and you can let us through, please do so but we don't want you to go through the red light, moving aside is fine but going through the light isn't. Doing so is an offence and you can be fined or receive points for doing it. Similarly, going through a red light and ending up in a collision could place liability on you.

If we can't make progress we do something called effective non-use. The lights stay on, the siren goes off. This is saying 'I'd like to come through when I can'.

Other helpful things to consider would be not stopping dead in your tracks. Often it's safer to keep going and let us pass in a safe place.

Stopping on a bend, the brow of a hill or directly opposite another vehicle makes it harder to get past too. In these situations it's better that you keep going until the road opens up and we can pass safely when we have a view.

The bottom line is, we don't want you to commit offences to let us through, just make it easier for us to get past if you can.

Motorway tuition is suitable for all ages. If the thought of driving on a motorway scares you and you avoid using them by prolonging your journey by several hours, motorway tuition will help you gain the skills and knowledge to deal with these roads safely.
If you've been involved in a motorway accident, I can help restore your confidence and make you a safer driver.

Motorways are busy multi-lane roads where cyclists and motorcycles under 50cc cannot use, and there are no pedestrian crossings. Also, speed limits are higher for coaches and large goods vehicles on Motorways. It's illegal for learners to practice on Motorways without a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor and is not part of the driving test, therefore it's recommended that new drivers practice motorway driving after they pass the driving test.

How many lessons will I need?
As we'll be starting from Hastings/St Leonards, a 4hr lesson is required to cover enough driving to develop those skills. We will take a short comfort break half way through.
