Hartlepool is like a game of dodgems today. At least 3 accidents in the last 2 hours. It’s carnage. Be careful out there guys.

Huge congratulations to Leila Matthews who passed her test today in Hartlepool on the first time of asking. Leila’s driving story wasn’t without its events I have to say but she took to the wheel with finesse and determination keeping her nerves well hidden. It’s been a pleasure teaching you Leila. Keep safe and i’ll see you out there.

on your test you will be asked to pull over at a safe place on the left. Once behind a parked car (angled start), once either on a hill or at a specified position such as next to that next tree, and once in a safe convenient and legal place (SCALP). Your driving instructor will prep you for this in your lessons but here is a reminder of what the highway code says.

Rule 243

DO NOT stop or park:

- near a school entrance
- anywhere you would prevent access for Emergency Services
- at or near a bus or tram stop or taxi rank
- on the approach to a level crossing/tramway crossing
- opposite or within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space
- near the brow of a hill or hump bridge
- opposite a traffic island or (if this would cause an obstruction) another parked vehicle
where you would force other traffic to enter a tram lane
- where the kerb has been lowered to help wheelchair users and powered mobility vehicles
- in front of an entrance to a property
on a bend
- where you would obstruct cyclists’ use of cycle facilities

exceptions - when forced to do so by stationary traffic.
