Sam’s BMW X3M (F97) in Sophisto Grey 🔥🚙

This X3M’s sat nav decided to go for a swim 🤦🌊

GPS location was showing in the sea, and the cause was a waterlogged Telematics Control Unit (TCU) ✅

This is a fault we see a lot, usually down to poor bonding on the shark fin aerial 🦈📡
As you can see, the circuit board was properly fried from water ingress 💦⚡️

Now fitted with a new unit, fully programmed, and the shark fin re-bonded back in position 🔧💻
Sat nav is back showing the correct location 🗺️✅

On vehicles built 06/2020 onwards, BMW introduced a security lockout on the engine ECU to help prevent tampering.

This session with big thanks to AutoTuner, we’ve carried out a same-day ECU unlock 💻 along with an MHD Super License and XHP transmission software ⚙️

BMW X5 (G05) day in the workshop ✅

We had a trio of X5s in today, each in for something different:

1️⃣ Routine maintenance: major service completed ✅
2️⃣ Diagnosis + repair: parking sensor fault and engine management warning.
New parking sensor fitted and diesel particulate sensor replaced, no more warnings ✅
3️⃣ Diagnosis: air mass related concern, now progressing through the warranty process for repair 📋✅

✅ Clutch slave cylinder flush (SMG conversion to manual 👌)
✅ Motul RBF 600 used for that extra confidence on the mountain passes 💪

In with us for some preventative maintenance in the ZONE 💪🏎️

Fresh oil and filter ✅
Microfilter ✅
Also replacing a lower suspension arm with a worn ball joint ✅

And finally carrying out the common exhaust camshaft alignment ✅

Why do we do this you may ask ,

Over time the factory exhaust camshaft ledge bolts can stretch/loosen over time , allowing the upper and lower halves of the bearing ledge to shift out of alignment.

Symptoms : Can make an audible mechanical tick and eventually cause wear to the camshaft🤦

Using specialist tool we can re align the bearing ledges and insert a fresh set of bolts👌

Shell helix ultra oil used ☀️🛢️
Online service history updated 💻

Fault: Emergency call system not available

Cause: Water ingress to the telematics unit and GPS antenna.

Rectification:
✅ New GPS antenna
✅ New telematics unit
✅ New emergency battery
✅ Software update
✅ Re-bonding of the shark fin

This is a common issue we see across the BMW range and it won’t be the last.
