This one has been a bit of an ongoing project.

The Citroen dispatch had a catastrophic engine failure which caused irreparable damage to the engine. After a lot of back and forth with our customer, and their lease company we got the go ahead to fit a second hand engine to get it back on the road. We got the old engine out, swapped all the ancillaries over and the new engine fitted, along with a service and MOT this van is now back on the road.

Just a quick post to make people aware we are currently having issues with our email system. We think our email provider has been affected by the issues from the world wide outage on 19th July. We have been in contact with the tech team and waiting on a reply. We got called to look at a transit custom that the clutch pedal had stuck down and not return back up to is original place along with a pool of fluid that had appeared underneath the van.

After an initial inspection it became evident that the fluid was brake fluid and it was coming from between the gearbox and the engine which suggested it was the clutch slave cylinder that was leaking. We removed the gearbox at our customers place of work to inspect the clutch slave cylinder and confirmed it had failed leaking brake fluid into the bell housing and onto the clutch. We also checked the duel mass flywheel at the same time and found excessive movement which would have caused an issue in the near future causing our customer to have needed the gearbox removing again. We explained this and advised that having it replaced while replacing the clutch and slave cylinder would ultimately save on more labour costs in the future. Our customer opted to go ahead with replacing the flywheel along with the clutch and slave cylinder which got this van back to its former glory and set for many more miles.

Remember all this was done at our customers place of work, this saved on recovery costs and the hassle of having to arrange it all.

This Nissan navara had an unusual vibration at idle and when slowly picking the revs up. We went out and had a look and suspected it was a collapsed flywheel which was no longer balanced correctly. To confirm this we needed to remove the transmission to check. After our customer gave us the green light we soon had the transmission out and confirmed our suspicions. While the transmission was out it made sense to also replace the clutch as well as the flywheel. We got all this replaced within the day and back to our customer before he finished work. It’s now back on the road with a new clutch, flywheel and no judder.

Well it’s been a while since we last posted, time doesn’t half fly. Since we last posted I have become a married man, fitted a new kitchen at home and DB Autocare has moved premises so as well as serving our customers as normal it’s been very busy behind the scenes.

Here is a couple of pictures of a BMW 520d that had a leak from its cam cover. We replaced the cam cover and seal at our customers house and cleaned the old leak off. This car is now set for plenty more miles.

We have seen a few unusual things while doing this job but a sump plug held in with Liquid Metal? All we can this is at some point this corsa was serviced and someone over tightened the sump plug and stripped the threads so decided to hide this from the customer and use Liquid Metal to hold the plug in place. We dont know how it was over tightened as it says on the sump 14nm which is the maximum force that should be used to tighten the sump plug.

Due to the damage that was done the only way to fix this was to replace the sump.

It didn’t take us long to do this and carry out a quick service at the same time.

Last week we had a golf in for a coolant leak. After a bit of investigation we soon found the leak to be coming from the water pump. On this engine the water pump is driven by the timing belt, with the timing belt being a once use item we got the timing belt kit and water pump replaced. Vacuum filled the coolant system to make sure we didn’t get any trapped air. Then this car was back to its former glory and back on the road.

This fiesta came to us for a service and MOT. When servicing it we noticed the indicator within the door mirror wasn’t working. The first this to check was the bulb but this wasn’t at fault. A few wiring checks later and it became evident we had a few broken wires. We found the damaged got this repaired and had a working indicator.

These rear axle bushes on this fiesta had completely detached. This would cause a very floaty rear end and could make it difficult to keep the rear of the car in control.

We have the special tool at DB Autocare the pushes these out and pushes the new ones in just as they would be done at the main dealer.

We soon got both rear axle bushes replaced and this car back on the road.

Last week seemed to be a brake pipe kind of week.

This was a Range Rover Sport that the brakes had completely failed. This was due to a rear brake pipe completely corroding away and bursting. We checked the other side and realised that one wasn’t far behind. We got on the phone to Landrover and ordered both sides and got them fitted. I took multiple times to bleed this braking system up and getting all the air out but we got there in the end.

Well this brake pipe on this fiesta didn’t have much life left in it. We picked this up on MOT and found both front brake pipes to be heavily corroded. Luckily Ford make these brake pipes so we didn’t have to make new ones. It didn’t take too long to get the old ones off, fit the new ones and get everything bled up.

Brake pipes are often overlooked but when the corrode all the way through and burst this can cause a full brake failure which would be highly dangerous. That won’t be the case with this fiesta now.
