ILLINGWORTH ST MARY'S DOMINATE THE FINAL

Illingworth St Mary's won the toss in the 78th Crossley Shield Final and opted to bat first against Triangle. It lost its first three wickets for only 19 runs but then up stepped Luke Brooksby and skipper Jamie Moorhouse. The next wicket fell at 182-4 as the pair added 163 runs for the fourth-wicket. Brooksby was bowled by Daniel Crosland shortly after completing a fine century. His 104 runs came in 84 balls and included 16 x 4s and 2 x 6s. Crosland then claimed the wicket of Moorhouse for 66 but Triangle were faced with a formidable task of overtaking 241-6.
Triangle's reply never got out of first gear. Wickets tumbled at regular intervals as no batter reached 30 runs, with five St Mary's bowlers sharing the wickets in a very disappointing score of 128 all out.
There was only one real contender for the Man-of-the-Final and Luke Brooksby was duly awarded that trophy by League President, David Normanton, who also presented the Crossley Shield to the winning captain, Jamie Moorhouse.
Illingworth St Mary's has now won the Shield on five occasions, to add to its successors in 1981, 1982, 1985 and 2018.
