Raising Smiles is run by volunteers and 100% of the donations they receive is divided equally between supporting the heroes of the National Health Service, and on providing gifts for babies, children and young adults who are spending time in a hospital or hospice in the UK.
In light of the recent Coronavirus pandemic, the charity have evolved to provide supplies of PPE for frontline medical staff, to save their lives, and protect the lives of those they care for. Raising Smiles will also provide funding for mental health charities that support our brave NHS workers. They are under an unprecedented amount of pressure and supporting Raising Smiles is an incredible way to protect them physically and mentally.
As well as helping them to cope, the process of play and the smiles that it raises has been proven to assist in recovery and fighting illnesses, boosting the immune system and encouraging the positivity that is so important to the children and their families. Raising Smiles also donate a huge range of presents from games consoles and MP3 players to books and cuddly toys for the children that are in hospitals at this time. Raising Smiles work with the individual children’s hospital wards in the UK to ask exactly what their current patients would enjoy and benefit from the most. The children that receive their gifts are in a strange place, often undergoing daily treatments and procedures that are painful and frightening. Not all of them will leave, but while they are there we want to make sure their moments are associated with the things that children need most of all during this difficult time – fun, play, laughter and of course, smiles.
