Young people around the Gainsborough area are having to spend a fortune on 2 hour driving lessons, just to get them into Lincoln or Scunthorpe where they have to take their driving tests since the closure of the test centre in Gainsborough. For many the cost prevents them learning to drive. There are many issues with driving tests nationally, which are being addressed hopefully, but in this day and age, why is a physical building needed to be run as a test centre? Why can't the test centres in Lincoln and Scunthorpe run a satellite hub system where examiners base themselves at somewhere like the council building?
I submitted a motion to West Lindsey full council asking for the council to open discussions with the government to see what can be done. In rural areas where public transport is so poor it essential that people can learn to drive to access job opportunities.
