A great addition to the National Centre flight line shelter with a full set of roll up doors from our friends at Titan Boat Canopies (Outdoor Cover Solutions).
Its going to make the winter league events at the Centre much more pleasant with the opportunity to get out of the weather but still see what's going on.
A great job Steve Johnson and team, thank you.

Good morning.

Yet again we've enjoyed another week with lots of enquiries from members of the public about how they can get involved in the world of model flying!

Are you one of these people that has discovered our page and are loving the beautiful aircraft we feature and wondering how to take your first steps and get involved in the world of model aircraft?

You are? Great! The BMFA is here to help!

Our dedicated team of expert staff who are active modellers, along with over 800 affiliated flying clubs around the UK would love to help you get into the air whilst the beautiful weather continues.

If you have any questions you'd like to ask, please fire away. Either leave a comment below, private message, email or give us a call 🙂

The most often asked question from people looking to get started is...

How do I learn to fly?

Without doubt the best, safest, and arguably the most enjoyable way, is to join your local model flying club.

There you will be met by friendly faces who will be able to offer you lots of help and advice to get you started, no matter what type of model interests you.

Most people learn to flying via a 'buddy box' system. This is where you and your instructor's 'controls' are linked so your instructor can help you, passing over more and more control of the aircraft as your skills develop. If you get into difficulty your instructor simply takes back full control, allowing you to settle your nerves before you're ready to take control once again.

This method is really effective, it allows you to build confidence at all stages of the flight knowing your instructor is there to help at any second, it also reduces costs as the risk of crashing is massively reduced, finally it makes learning to fly a fun and much less stressful experience. In a short number of flights you'll be well underway to your first solo 🙂

Visit the BMFA's website for a full list of BMFA Affiliated Clubs that are near to you and get in touch with them. Many clubs have a training aircraft and buddy box that they would be delighted to give you a trial flight.

Go on... what are you waiting for? We're here to help you every step of the way, let us help you realise a dream and get you started in a brilliant new sport.

Good morning.

Whilst the good weather holds who fancies some fun with friends at your National Centre, or better still a model flying mini break this weekend?

Over the 5th & 6th of June BMFA Buckminster will be hosting an 'Introducing Fun Fly'... aimed at those pilots who haven’t entered a competition before :)

There will be demonstrations, instruction and practice followed by a variety of competitions for pilots of all skill levels and experience.

Brought to you by the British Fun Fly Association and Evolution Models, why not come along and try your hand at Fun Fly, just as you've seen at the Nationals?

Only £10 per pilot per day - Pre booking is essential.
