The RYA Competent Crew course isn’t just for people chasing a maritime career - it’s built for anyone who wants to learn the fundamentals of sailing from scratch and spend five days living on the water.

You don't need any background in boating. Over five days, you’ll learn:

• Hoisting, reefing, and trimming sails
• Taking the helm and steering under sail and power
• Essential knots, deck work, and rope handling
• Life on board: living, cooking, and working as a team
• Safety and passage planning

It’s hands-on, sociable, and one of the most rewarding ways to discover a hobby that stays with you for life. Plus, all food on board is fully catered, so you can completely switch off and focus on learning the ropes ⚓

We are excited to welcome our new cohort of Yachtmaster Fast Track students today! They have a full 18 weeks of sailing ahead of them and they will come away qualified with a commercially endorsed RYA Yachtmaster ticket that can take them around the world and lead to exciting new ventures at sea ⛵.

These guys will be doing zero-to-hero training across the Solent and beyond! Offshore passages, night navigation, theory, commercial modules, you name it, we cover it. These next four months will transform them into professional skippers. Seeing people transform from total newbies to confident, capable skippers is the best part of what we do 😊

It’s an intensive route, but one that directly opens the doors to global travel, flotilla and charter work, deliveries, and a fulfilling maritime career.

Everyone starts somewhere! ⚓

The RYA Start Yachting course is a weekend of fun sailing and an introduction designed for complete beginners who want to experience life on board without committing to a full five-day week straight away.

Over the weekend, you'll get hands-on experience with:

Steering under sail and power

Basic ropework, knots, and winching

Essential safety gear and man-overboard procedures

Living aboard and experiencing two nights on the boat

No prior experience needed, no pressure, just two days learning how a cruising yacht works, getting comfortable at the helm, and finding out if sailing is for you. Plus, the course counts directly towards your RYA Competent Crew certificate if you decide to take it further 😊

Theory is one thing, but running drills in the Solent is another:

Complex Tides: Working with fast-moving streams and calculating tidal heights 🌊

Marina Handling: Berthing in tight spaces, springing off pontoons, and picking up moorings under power until it’s second nature ⛵

Real Traffic: Sharing channels with container ships and high speed ferries, applying collision regs in real time. ⛴️

Skills and drills: Hands on practice from the get go. 💪

You'll finish the course with an RYA certificate and the confidence to sail anywhere 🌎

As the summer holidays draw to a close, we want to say a huge thank you to all the mini crew mates and families who joined us on board this summer! ⛵⚓

For many of our younger sailors, this was their very first time stepping onto a yacht. From learning the ropes, mastering essential sailing skills, and gaining confidence at the helm, seeing them fall completely in love with the water has been the highlight of our season ✨

We hope this is just the beginning of many more years of sailing adventures. Have a wonderful start back at school, and we can’t wait to welcome you back on board for the next chapter! 🌊💙
