🤔 This one can feel a little backwards...

Your front tyres do the steering, and on many cars they do the driving too, so surely that's where the newest pair should go? Not necessarily.

When replacing two tyres, the general recommendation is to fit the new pair to the rear, helping the car stay more stable when grip is limited - especially with the rain we've been getting, and are due to get!

With the cost of owning a car being what it is, we understand why people try to squeeze as much life as possible out of their tyres. In fact, new RAC research found that 7% of us admit we’ve put off replacing worn tyres.

The problem is that there’s a difference between getting the full usable life from a tyre and pushing it beyond safe and legal limits!

🚗 Bought a used car recently?

The tyres might have plenty of tread left, but that doesn’t necessarily tell you how old they are...

Take a look at the sidewall and you’ll find a four-digit production code. Something like 2522 means the tyre was made in the 25th week of 2022.

If you’re unsure about the age or condition of what’s fitted to your car, pop into Performance Tyres and we can check them properly.

📢 Sometimes the cheapest tyre isn't the cheapest tyre...

A lower-priced part-worn might save money on the day, but you're also starting with less tread and an unknown history.

If by “clipped” you mean there was a thud loud enough to make you drive home with the radio or tunes turned down, give the tyre a quick look!

The alloy might get most of the attention, but a hard impact can damage your tyre sidewall too. If you spot a new cut, lump or bulge, that’s not something to ignore. Give us a call to get it checked over ASAP.

We've probably all had that moment at the petrol-station air machine.

You've got the hose attached, the screen is asking for a PSI... and suddenly you realise you don't actually know what number to put in. Here's the bit worth remembering: don't just copy the pressure written on the tyre itself.

The number you actually want is usually hiding in a much less obvious place - typically inside the driver's door or sometimes in your fuel flap.

Worth knowing before you're standing there holding up the queue. 😅

Found 10, 20 or even more tyres that all fit your car? Here's one way to narrow them down. Tyres of the same size can still perform differently, which is where the tyre label becomes useful.

It lets you compare three characteristics:

🌧️ Wet grip
⛽ Fuel efficiency
🔊 External rolling noise

So, for example, if you're comparing several tyres that all fit your car, the label gives you another way to understand what you're getting rather than making the decision on price alone.
