💬 We spoke to Dan Wild, Finance & Business Control Partner at our Glasgow West depot, for International Men's Health Week. Here's his perspective:
👉 How do you unwind after a stressful day at work?
"I enjoy spending time with my family - playing with my young daughters quickly helps me forget any stresses of the day!"
👉 What does 'being healthy' mean to you?
"In the context of mental health, being healthy is being able to recognise and manage emotions rather than being overwhelmed. It also means being able to maintain meaningful relationships and being resilient to change. I don’t think it’s unhealthy to get angry and upset; being able to manage these emotions is a marker of being healthy."
👉 What helps you stay positive during tough times?
"If I’m feeling overwhelmed with workload or personal circumstances, I like to split jobs into separate tasks and write everything down, I then get a boost each time I tick a task off. I also find hearing the perspectives of family and friends can help shed a different light."
👉 What’s your go-to way to recharge?
"I enjoy running. I try to get out for a lunchtime run a few times a week and then aim for a longer run at the weekend. It’s an amazing way to clear your mind and boost endorphins – healthy for body and mind!"
👉 What’s one small habit that makes a big difference to your wellbeing?
"I make sure I get up from my desk every few hours. Sometimes I need to complete tasks or projects that require a lot of screen time. I try to ensure I get up and chat to others in the office or make a coffee to give my brain a short pause. Prior to working at Volvo I spent a few years working solely from home. It wasn’t until I moved back into an office setting that I realised how much I had missed daily human interaction and collaboration!"
👉 What does a healthy workplace look like to you?
"A healthy workplace is one where employees feel supported, respected, and able to speak openly about their wellbeing. It promotes a positive work environment through good communication, work-life balance, and access to mental health support."
