FANCY BECOMING AN HGV DRIVER? BUT WHERE DO YOU EVEN START?

Maybe you're fed up with your current job. Maybe you've always fancied driving a lorry. Or perhaps you're simply looking for a completely different career.

But where do you begin? Who do you speak to? What qualifications do you need?

It's not just about learning to drive a lorry. There's a bit more involved.

Here's what the journey usually looks like:

1. Your car licence : You'll normally need a full UK car licence and be at least 18.
2. A medical : You'll need to meet the medical requirements for an HGV licence.
3. Your provisional HGV licence: A little paperwork with the DVLA.
4. Theory and hazard perception: Just like your car test, but specifically for larger vehicles.
5. Practical training and tests: This is where you get behind the wheel.
6. Driver CPC: Additional tests and qualifications you'll normally need to drive professionally.

And then there's the question of Class 1 or Class 2. What's the difference, and which do you need?

That's where we come in.

At LGS Transport Training in Frome, we help people understand their options and guide them through the process.

You don't need to have all the answers before you contact us. That's our job.

Thinking about it? Let's have a chat and work out your first step.

That’s what HGV training is all about, getting qualified, getting out there and actually loving the job.
Thinking about doing the same? Your turn next.
