🔧 8BallTuning – Frequently Asked Questions
We get asked a lot of questions, so we thought we’d clear up a few of the more common ones…
Q: Is it 8 Ball Tuning, 8Ball or 8BallTuning?
A: It’s 8BallTuning. All one word. No spaces. Capital ‘B’ & ‘T’. ✅
Even Google occasionally struggles with this one.
Q: Do you work on Subarus?
A: Yes, but diesel models only. We don’t offer services for petrol Subarus.
Q: Do you offer hardcut limiters, popcorn limiters or smoke maps?
A: No. They’re not something we offer or want associated with our business. We’re interested in properly engineered vehicle calibrations, not unnecessary noise or smoke.
Q: Do you offer Stage 1, Stage 2 or Stage 3 tuning?
A: No. We don’t work in ‘stages’.
Stage numbers are largely marketing terminology rather than a standardised technical specification. One company’s Stage 2 could be another company’s Stage 1.
We calibrate vehicles according to their actual hardware, mechanical condition and individual requirements. The calibration should suit the vehicle, not a marketing label.
Q: Do you tune any vehicle?
A: No, and we regularly turn customers away.
Not every vehicle is mechanically suitable for increased performance. If we identify concerns with its condition, reliability or safety, we won’t proceed simply because someone is willing to pay.
Sometimes the correct professional advice is to leave it alone.
Q: How long does software development take?
A: Development can take weeks or even months, depending on the vehicle, hardware configuration and work involved.
We can provide an estimated timeframe for a particular project, but there is no universal development time. Proper testing, refinement and validation take as long as necessary. We don’t rush development to meet an arbitrary deadline.
Q: Do you fit customer-supplied parts?
A: No.
Our insurance arrangements don’t cover the risks associated with fitting customer-supplied parts. We still carry responsibility for the work we undertake, even where a customer has supplied the component.
For that reason, we supply the parts we fit. This allows us to control quality, compatibility and the appropriate warranty arrangements.
Q: Do you only tune vehicles?
A: Not at all.
Despite our name, we provide diagnostics, mechanical repairs, maintenance, servicing, software calibrations and development.
