🚗🔧 This Week’s Wiring Wins! 🔧🚗

It’s been a busy week in the workshop, and our team has been hard at work diagnosing and repairing some tricky wiring faults across a range of vehicles. Here’s a look at what we’ve tackled:

• BMW X1 – 4WD warning traced to a faulty rear differential control module. ✅ New component fitted and programmed in-house.

• Range Rover – Remote key wouldn’t work, leaving the vehicle insecure and hard to start. 🛠️ Diagnosed as a corroded RF module – replaced and wiring repaired!

• Dacia – Difficult starting despite multiple parts fitted elsewhere. 🔍 Found the real culprit: a broken control wire for the glow plug module. Repaired and now starting first turn of the key!

• Volvo – Parking brake stuck on. ⚡ Diagnosed as a broken wire to the left brake motor. Repaired and back to smooth operation.

Every repair required methodical diagnostics and specialist testing methods to pinpoint the exact fault – saving customers time, money, and frustration.

Sam one of our younger technicians recently tackled a Skoda that was having some starting issues 💪🏻

This had become very inconvenient, often leaving the customer stranded unable to start the engine! 😤

Armed with nothing more than a test light 💡 and knowledge of how the circuit should work, some tests were made!

Most importantly the circuit needed to be tested under load and ‘working’
This identified a breakdown of a main power feed to the starter motor. ❌

A repair was made to the wire to create a path for current to flow to the starter motor! 💥

No unnecessary parts fitted - a reliable cost effective repair made - customer back on the road with a car they can trust is going to start! ✅

🚗💡2021 Land Rover Defender – MoT Failure Rescued!

This Defender came in for diagnosis after failing its MoT for an offside front position lamp inoperative. At first glance, you might think: “Just a bulb, right?” 🤔

Not this time. The Defender uses LED light units – no bulbs to swap out! ❌

👉 The fix? A new circuit board inside the lamp to restore the position light and get the vehicle back on the road.

💰 The best part: this cost‑effective repair saved the customer from replacing the entire lamp unit, which from Land Rover would have been over £1000.

✅ Result: Position lamp brought back to life, MoT passed, and one happy Defender owner!

When a warning light pops up, it’s easy to assume a quick code read will pinpoint the issue—but that’s never the full story. At Motech Garage, every diagnostic job includes a comprehensive diagnostic assessment designed to uncover the true root cause of the problem, not just the symptoms.

A recent example?
A customer asked us to clean her EGR valve after a basic fault code scan. Did those codes point toward an issue? Yes—but they didn’t tell the whole story? No! — After digging deeper, we found:
❌ Excessive carbon buildup not just in the EGR valve, but also the cooler, manifold, and sensors—all needing attention
❌ A damaged, leaking intercooler causing low boost pressure

We thoroughly cleaned and repaired the affected components, backed it up with before-and-after data analysis, and delivered a fix the customer could trust.
