Summer at last! Its been hard working in the heat but but looking back seeing the transformation from the car as it came in, to how it looks now, makes it all worth it. This one has been in for full body work and new paint. Its been quite a job, its a larger car with body styling that reminds me of early 70's American muscle. Can anyone guess the make, model and year of this one?

What year and model is this? This is in the the full works, we are excited to see this back on the road again.

Cant remember the last time I saw one of these on the road, this car reminds me of the 90's. I think these were assembled in Longbridge UK. Powered by a 2.0L inline four cylinder turbo charged engine it was the most powerful and fastest production Rover model ever built. Quoted by the press back in 1992 "As quick as a Porsche at half the price".

This one come in with the usual signs of a car of this age. Rusty sills and rear arches, but it can all be fixed. Once the rust was fixed we repainted the whole car. Lots of prep and minor dent repairs before many blasts of base coat and 2K clear. It now exceeds its original new production finish from back when it was built.

We are passionate about keeping the older cars on the road, hopefully this will be on the road now for many more years to come.

This one came in with a little .....oppsie on the right wing. In this case and often with a collision, the impact is spread across the vehicle and the resulting damage goes further than you might first think.
Check out the right chassis rail, maybe not as obvious in the pictures but also the left chassis rail. We straightened welded and strengthened these and began working on anther wing. Souring parts for a vehicle like this can also be a challenge. Its and old car and parts are not readily available so we had to work with what we could as you can see from the replacement wing.
It took sometime to make sure everything was back in alignment, then we matched the new paint to the old to make it look nothing had ever happened.

Can anyone guess the make year and model?

To get to this stage takes so much, all the old paint had to be taken off to make sure there was no rust lurking in the background to spoil things down the road. All the welding, rust repairs are complete. Body worked, so we know we now have nice straight panels. Another detail that takes so much time. Have you have ever looked down the side of a car and seen it all crooked and wavy? Not here! Finally in primer, from here we can guide coat and sand once again to finish off any small imperfections, then its on the home straight.

Everyone loves an old Mini, its popularity cannot be argued, even so many years later. Old steel from back in those days didn't get the treatment modern steel for automotive use does today and it really was born to rust, without taking into account the water traps in the design. Lost of fabrication went into this, we made a frame to make sure we could get around the whole car, so many days where we felt we were uncovering more rust. Rust under the rust, that feeling, like your not getting far, some days going backwards. But eventually we get to this stage and its all worth it. Nearly there now. It will be better than it was when it came out of the factory.

Its been a while since the last post but we have been busy! Here is another exotic car we have been working on and its still in the process. 1968 Porsche 911 SWB LHD Targa. This model was made for one year only and we believe this particular one spent some time in Spain. It came to us for restoration as a car that drove in....Check out a previous post of it complete. Anyway, it looked pretty good, for sure the paint could be better and we were about to address that, but the owner wanted this to be restored and restored right. We took the whole car apart back to the shell, made a frame to wheel it around on and braced the car so nothing could move, then off to media blasting it went. The red coating you see on the car is applied after media blast to stop any rust while we repair. What people don't understand is until you get a car back this far you don't know its past or what has happened to it. check out some of these previous repairs! For sure if its not falling apart you can fill over these again and make it look pretty but that isn't the proper job! Sooooo have a look at what was what came back from media blast and the work we are doing to make this right. Comment on what you think.
