Called out to change a camshaft position sensor on a land rover sport with the dreaded 2litre engine. Car would just crank but now car starts but with a full health check and diagnostics it was pointed out to the customer that the timing needed done asap as it had the dreaded symptoms starting on it to this shows the importance of a proper diagnostics and full check over. This also brings me onto my next issue.

The amount of calls we now get to say can you change xyz parts that the customer has self diagnosed with a £25 dongle of ebay these should not be relied upon unless you know what to do as even thou it says its a sensor at fault it is not always that part to blame for the issue. So please unless you know what your doing dont waste your money on 1 and get a professional to do the diagnostics for you.

Front discs and pads all caliper bolts and sliders cleaned and greased. pre mot done and found tie rod and tie rod end both had major play so parts collected and fitted to keep the customer on the road. Another happy customer today. Full oil and filter service with engine flush and new sump plug, also new oil level sensor fitted as it had been broken. All new genuine parts fitted and correct oil now in as it had incorrect oil in causing serious engine and dpf issues.

Bit of a differnt one today.
When a customer says that other independandt mechanics can do an oil service for £99 really at this stage questions need asked. Are they using the correct grade for your car i.e low saps dexos 2 as recomended by the maufacturer, are they using genuine oil filters and are they replacing sump plug washer or sump plug as recomended by manufacturers. I have over 14years experience and these prices would of been good 4 years ago but cant be now if its the correct parts. Also do they have the correct insurance for if things go wrong on the car that they cause. So have a think about why its cheap and how long you want your car to last.
