However, the service is still available for the conveyance of letters and parcels or for picking up prescriptions or any other urgent supplies for those unable to go out due to the lockdown.

Eye Roadcar has been operating successfully for 18 months now and I'm very pleased to say that it has become much more of a viable proposition in recent months, as more and more residents have come to hear about the high quality service offered in the town of Eye and it's surrounding villages. Feedback has been very positive as I continue to strive to provide all my customers with a friendly and reliable service. Fares remain very competitive at just £1.50 per mile for all local journeys of up to 30 miles and including up to 4 passengers. Journeys of a greater distance are negotiated at a more favourable rate and a generous discount applies to return journeys booked at the same time as the outward journey. A special fare of £4.50 allows any return journey to be made anywhere within the town of Eye and a similar offer of £11.50 allows a return journey from anywhere in Eye to anywhere in Diss. For those wishing to catch a train from Diss, the single fare from Eye to the railway station is £7.50 (covering up to 4 passengers and luggage).

Eye Roadcar has been up and running for 4 months now and in that time, has been well received by many people in the town of Eye and its surrounding villages...
However, in order to ensure that the business becomes a viable proposition and continues to provide an excellent service to residents and visitors, it needs to reach out to a greater number of people, which hopefully will result in an increase in the number of bookings received...

New private hire ‘taxi’ service for Eye…

After many years without a locally based ‘taxi’ service in the town, former Galloway bus driver and vintage omnibus enthusiast, Patrick Burnside (of Eye ‘Open Gardens’ vintage bus fame), is now providing what is hoped will be a welcome return to the town of a locally based pre-booked private hire car service.

Appropriately named the ‘Eye Roadcar’, re-kindling distant memories of the erstwhile Eastern Counties Roadcar Company of Ipswich, who first brought motorised public transport to the town in the late 1920s, when they established a two vehicle garage situated at No. 31, Castle Street (closed in March 1971 and demolished shortly thereafter).

I am a recent arrival to the town, having moved from Norwich a couple of years ago, attracted by the town’s special charm and friendliness.
My aim is to provide a courteous and reliable service to the people of Eye and its surrounding villages, operating on a ‘when required’ basis between the hours of 7am and 7pm daily, with emergency hospital/doctor/vet bookings being considered outside of these hours.

The service can also be pre-booked for the carriage of small and medium sized parcels by those requiring a super fast delivery.

Fares are based on a competitive flat rate of £1.50 per mile with a 25% discount for same day returns. Waiting time is £10 for the first hour, rising to £18 for the next hour and £25 for a maximum three hour wait.

I am hoping this new venture will be well received by the residents of the town and its surrounding villages and am looking forward to a successful first year, providing a first class, friendly and reliable service.
