They must only use GOV.UK to manage their booking
DVSA logo - landscapeCar outside driving test centre
We’re reminding learner drivers about unofficial apps and scams
As you know, since 12 May 2026, only learner drivers have been allowed to book, change, swap or cancel a car driving test.

The new terms and conditions for the booking service mean that learner drivers are not allowed to:

use unofficial apps, websites or services that scan the driving test booking service looking for appointments
give someone else their details so they can book a car driving test for them
We’re reminding learner drivers
We’re emailing learner drivers to remind them to stop using any apps or tools that search for driving tests for them. They must only use GOV.UK to manage their booking.

We’re reminding them that if they use an app or tool that searches for driving tests, we will:

suspend their ability to manage their test online – they will then only be able to make changes or book a new test by phone
cancel their booking
Our top priority is making the system fairer for all learners.

We are continuously monitoring activity and where misuse is clearly identified – including cases where a learner has not legitimately booked their test or where our terms and conditions are breached – we will take appropriate action, up to and including cancellation of the test.

We’re also reminding learners about the dangers of trying to book or get an earlier test through anyone on social media.

Help us get the message to your pupils
Please remind your pupils of 3 simple things:

do not use unofficial apps or websites to find or book a test slot
do not book a test through anyone on social media
only ever use GOV.UK – it is free and secure
We’ve published guidance for your pupils about this.

Find out more about the risks of unofficial driving test booking services and social media scams.

Thank you for your continued support in helping to make the system fairer for every learner.

🚨From 9 June, learner drivers will only be able to move their driving test to nearby test centres.

If you book a new test from this date, you will only be able to move your test to:

✅ any of the 3 centres nearest to where your test is booked

✅ the test centre you first booked at on that current booking

If you have an existing booking, the new rule will apply to where your test is booked at on 9 June – not where you first booked.

IN THE LIFE OF A DRIVING INSTRUCTOR…
Come and spend a day with me 😂

ROUNDABOUT BRIEFING…
(If you do not have a sense of humour, scroll on 😅)

Right then. We are approaching a roundabout. Nice and simple really.
Mirrors, observations, find a safe gap and move away when it is safe.
Simple. Very simple.

Unfortunately learners hear something completely different:
“Welcome to the giant spinning circle of confusion where nobody appears to know where they are going.”

The second I mention a roundabout, your entire personality changes. Your back straightens, your hands grip the wheel and your eyes widen like I have just announced we are driving into battle. Suddenly every vehicle becomes suspicious.

That car approaching with no indicator?
Brilliant, is it turning left? Going straight ahead? Third exit?
Driving to France? Nobody knows.

Then another one appears indicating right for so long that I start wondering if they have accidentally welded the indicator stalk into place.

Then comes the mystery driver, no signal, no lane position,no clues.
Just blind confidence and a dream.
I calmly say:

“Right then, after this car you have a lovely gap.”

You nod, the car passes, the gap appears, the gap gets bigger.
Bigger.
Bigger.
Nothing.
We are still waiting.

At this point people behind us have grown old. Families have started new generations. Archaeologists are beginning to study the queue.

Then suddenly:
“RIGHT I’M GOING!”

You release the clutch. The car moves. Then instantly transforms into an angry kangaroo.

Bounce. Bounce. Bounce.

My coffee nearly leaves orbit.
The sunglasses on my head are now in the footwell.
My seatbelt tightens.
My soul exits briefly through the passenger window.

We recover and continue. Then halfway onto the roundabout you quietly say:

“Oh no…”
I already know. I do not even want to ask.
“What?”
“I’m in third.”

You could have sold the other gears because apparently first and second are now decorative features.

Then after all of that, you move away and at this point you have completely forgotten where you are going.

We are in the right lane with a right signal on, but you insist on trying to leave at the exit ahead.
You are now testing my ninja skills.
We wrestle the steering wheel in the middle of the roundabout while I push us towards the third exit and you are still fighting to go straight ahead.

Finally we make it around whilst I steer and signal left to leave.
At this point you have let go of the wheel and given up on life in the middle of the carnage we have caused 🤣 I apologise to everyone behind us with my hand up as we enter the third exit.

FINALLY we are off the roundabout and then you absolutely perfectly and proudly announce:

“I think I’m getting better at these now.”

Driving instructors do not age normally.
We simply die and come back several times a day like some strange form of driving lesson reincarnation 🤣

ADI’s and learners… tell me this does not sound familiar 👀🤣

Have a good week ❤️😂

Tag your friends and instructors in 😅

📢 The rules for booking a practical car driving test are changing.

From 31 March 2026, learner drivers and approved driving instructors (ADIs) will only be able to change a driving test booking up to 2 times.

A change includes:
- changing the date or time
- changing the test centre
- swapping an appointment with another learner

If you’re an ADI, please make sure your pupils only book their test when they’re ready as swapping between pupils will count towards this limit. You can set times when you're available to take your pupils to their driving tests. This stops your pupils from booking tests at times that do not work for you.

👉 When this comes into force, everyone with a driving test booked will have 2 changes available, regardless of how many changes they may have already made.

This change is part of the outcome of our consultation to improve the way driving tests are booked.

The rules for booking and managing car driving tests will change from spring 2026. Find out what the changes are and how they affect you.
