I was genuinely honoured to be a guest on the from Carwow, hosted by Sepi Arani and Sarah Blewett, and brilliantly produced by Annabel Lanyon.
We had a wide‑ranging conversation about how the automotive market is changing faster than ever before, and why the last five years have arguably reshaped the industry more than the previous five decades. From the rapid rise of Chinese brands and the erosion of traditional brand loyalty, to what’s really driving consumer behaviour today, it was a thoughtful and honest discussion. One actionable takeaway for industry professionals is to consistently re-evaluate assumptions about customer priorities and to invest in flexible strategies that can adapt quickly to new market entrants and shifting consumer expectations.
We also explored why hybrids are currently outperforming full EVs as a transition technology, and highlighted some of the biggest misconceptions still holding buyers back as the market evolves. For example, range anxiety, the fear that EVs cannot travel far enough between charges, remains a common concern among consumers, even as charging infrastructure and battery capabilities continue to improve.
If you’re interested in where the industry is heading, and what’s changing beneath the headlines, this one’s well worth a listen (or watch). One particularly surprising insight we discussed was how some legacy brands are quietly outperforming newer entrants in digital retail experiences, even as perceptions suggest otherwise. If you want to hear more about why that might be, and other behind-the-scenes developments shaping the future of automotive retail, tune in.
Thanks again to the Carwow team for the invite and the great conversation.
