A massive CONGRATULATIONS to Amelia, who has only gone and passed her driving test FIRST TIME in Dunfermline! 🥳🙌

And just to make it even sweeter… only 2 small driving faults! 😎👏

What a fantastic result and a brilliant drive from start to finish. All those lessons, practice with your Mum and hard work have definitely paid off!

🚗☀️ Right folks… that’s me off! ☀️🚗

Just a wee heads-up that the driving school is closing for two weeks while I swap the dual controls for a sun lounger! 😎

I’ll be away from the 9th July and back on the 27th July, hopefully with a tan instead of my usual left-arm driving instructor’s tan!

If you’ve messaged about lessons, don’t panic—I haven’t stalled and disappeared! I’ll get back to everyone when I’m home, but replies might be a bit slower while I’m busy practising my holiday skills instead of parallel parking.

To everyone learning just now—keep the theory ticking over, try not to forget your mirrors, and remember… no kangaroo starts while I’m away! 😂

Thanks as always for keeping me busy. Have a brilliant couple of weeks, enjoy the sunshine (if Scotland decides to give us any!), and I’ll see you all back behind the wheel soon.

Anyone at loose end tomorrow then come along to Queensferry Sports & Community Hub SCIO where Ferry Touch rugby are putting on a tournament to raise funds for Maggie's Edinburgh which is a charity very dear to our families hearts. We have special guests, bbq, and some fantastic not your ordinary raffle prizes, might have some signed rugby kit not saying who from, there is also bouncy castles for the kids. Bring cash as most of the stalls will be cash tomorrow.

The rules for booking practical car driving tests are changing to make the system fairer.

The changes will only apply to car driving tests. If you book vocational or motorcycle tests using OBS there won’t be any changes.

When we’re making the changes
Following the changes announced in January 2026 on limiting the number of times a learner driver can change or swap their test (from 31 March 2026), we’re now able to confirm the dates for the rest of the planned rule changes.

from 12 May 2026, only learners are allowed to book a test and make changes to their own booking
from 9 June 2026, learners can move their booked test only to nearby centres
Why we’re making these changes
We know this is a significant change for driving instructors.

Misuse of the booking system has made it harder for us to offer slots fairly. The consultation response to this change was split, with some of you feeling strongly that learners should have full control. Others felt just as strongly that instructors need flexibility to manage bookings effectively.

We've made a decision based on the evidence – our consultation found that the majority of learners wanted full control and we have acted to prioritise fairness for learners and tackle exploitation. But we recognise that reasonable professionals disagree on this and we respect that.

Introducing these changes means learners should only ever pay the actual fee DVSA charges.

From 12 May 2026: only learner drivers can book and manage their own test
From 12 May 2026, no-one other than learner drivers will be able to book or manage a car driving test.

This includes unofficial booking services and cancellation finder services. These services will no longer be able to operate lawfully and your pupils should not use them.

This will be through a declaration box on the public online booking service on GOV.UK. Any bookings made through the DVSA customer service centre will need to agree to the terms verbally before making a booking.

Learner declaration
Alongside this from 12 May 2026, your pupils must confirm when they book their test, that they:

are booking only their own car test
agree to a new set of terms and conditions
This will be through a declaration box on the public online booking service on GOV.UK.

Your pupils will not be able to book their test if they don’t agree to these things.

From 9 June 2026: restricting the location tests can be moved to
From 9 June 2026, test centre changes will be restricted to the 3 nearest centres to wherever your pupils test is booked as of that date.

Reminder on limiting number of times a test can be changed
We previously announced we would be reducing from 6 to 2 the number of times a learner driver can change a test. This change will come into force from 31 March 2026.

You’re approaching a spiral roundabout and the road markings start moving like a game of Mario Kart! 🌀🚗💨

Let’s talk about the Spiral Roundabout. They are designed to keep traffic flowing by naturally "pushing" you into the correct lane for your exit. The golden rule? Get in your lane early and stay in it!

✅ Follow the lines: The lanes spiral outwards. If you start in the middle, the road will naturally guide you to the outside as you reach your exit.
✅ Check your mirrors: Especially when the lanes shift!
✅ Trust the markings: Don't panic and try to cut across lanes—just follow the spiral.
