🤖 Bambot Facts: Did you know electric cars now have a £10,000 advantage when it comes to the UK's 'luxury car tax'?

It's not often we hear about the Government making motoring taxes more favourable, but here's one change that's worth knowing about!

From April 2026, the threshold for the UK's Expensive Car Supplement, often referred to as the 'luxury car tax', increased from £40,000 to £50,000 for fully electric vehicles.

For petrol, diesel and hybrid cars? The threshold remains at £40,000.

So, what does this actually mean?

Well, Petrol, diesel and hybrid cars with an original list price above £40,000 can trigger the additional tax. For fully-electric, that threshold is now £50,000.

It’s not an insignificant saving either. The supplement currently costs £440 per year, payable for five years from the second year of registration.

That's a potential £2,200 saving over five years for someone choosing an eligible EV with a list price between £40,000 and £50,000.

The change is designed to recognise that electric vehicles can still carry higher upfront prices than their combustion-engine equivalents, while encouraging more drivers to make the switch.

Of course, EVs aren't completely exempt from road tax anymore, but it's another example of how the financial landscape of motoring continues to evolve. ⚡

Here’s the lovely Jo Ratcliffe collecting her new Nissan at Prestonfield Golf Club, all the way back in 2016.

So, how was Jo’s experience with P+B? Well, just a few weeks later, she joined the team. Fast forward, she’s still here, and we’re lucky to have her!

So we can only assume the experience was at least reasonable.
