Another great post I wanted to share.

WHY ARE THERE SO MANY DRIVERS ON THE ROAD WHO CANNOT DRIVE

Let us stop pretending.
There are people on the road today who should not be anywhere near a steering wheel.
Not tomorrow.
Not next week.
Not ever.

Some drivers did the absolute bare minimum to pass a test and have not improved since.
They treat the pass certificate like a personality upgrade.
It was not.
It was thirty five minutes where they happened to hold it together.

Some were trained badly.
Rushed lessons.
Shortcut teaching.
Zero understanding of risk.
Yet they are now in charge of a tonne of metal on a public road.

Some learned nothing except how to hide their mistakes in front of an examiner.
They drive now exactly how they would have failed their test.

Some genuinely believe the Highway Code is optional.
They operate on instinct
guesswork
and blind hope
as if hope has ever stopped a collision.

Some have convinced themselves they are brilliant drivers.
Where did this confidence come from
because it certainly did not come from their skill.

Some are so wrapped up in anger and ego that their driving is basically a tantrum on wheels.
They take every lane change personally.
Every merge is an attack.
Every mistake made by someone else becomes a reason to act like a clown.

Some are passengers in their own car.
Eyes on a phone
mind on their stress
attention everywhere except the situation that requires it most.

Some have been driving for decades
but have been making the same mistakes for decades.
Time behind the wheel does not equal talent.
It just means they have survived their habits long enough to believe they are acceptable.

And the harshest part
the part nobody wants to admit
is this:

The drivers who scare you do not scare themselves.
They think they are normal.
They think everyone else is dramatic.
They have no idea how much danger they create.

Sensible drivers see it because they actually understand what good driving looks like.
Unsafe drivers never see it because they think the road will always bend around their behaviour.

That is why there are so many people on the road who cannot drive.
Not because the test is broken.
Not because the roads are hard.

But because too many people stopped learning the moment they passed
and started believing they were experts.

You are frustrated because you care.

They are dangerous because they do not.

Copied from

Today I sat in a queue at a roundabout about seven cars back from the front.
The traffic was building up.
When I finally crept forward far enough to see the cause it was the same problem I see every single day.

Drivers coming from the right taking the very first exit.
No signal on.
No indication of intent.
Nothing.

Everyone waiting because nobody knew where they were going.
They were gliding of on the first as though we were all psychic.

The queue behind me just kept growing.

This is the quiet disease on our roads.

People who think roundabouts will somehow work without communication.

People who believe that other drivers magically know which exit they are taking.

People who genuinely do not realise that one tiny click of a stalk changes the entire flow of the road.

Indicating on a roundabout is not optional.

It is not a courtesy.
It is basic driving.
It is the only thing that tells the people waiting whether they can move or whether they need to hold back.

When you take the first exit without signalling you hold up everyone.
You create unnecessary queues.
You frustrate drivers.
You cause hesitation.
You force people to guess and guessing on a roundabout is how collisions happen.

This is why roundabouts clog.

Not because they are badly designed.
Not because drivers are impatient.
Because too many drivers refuse to communicate the simplest bit of information.

Where they are going.

If you are turning left signal left.
If you are going ahead keep left and no signal until you pass the exit before yours.
If you are turning right signal right.
And when you exit signal left so people waiting know you are leaving.

One second of effort.
One tiny movement of your finger.
That is all it takes to keep the entire junction flowing.

Instead we get drivers who drift in with no signals and drift out the same way and act surprised when the road behind them is in chaos.

Roundabouts only work when everyone plays their part.

If you do not communicate you are not just being lazy.
You are being unsafe.
You are being a problem.
You are the reason queues form for no reason at all.

If you want the road to flow then do your job.
Signal.
Every time.
Every exit.
No exceptions.

Because nobody on that roundabout is paid to guess your intentions.

100% same for myself, thanks for posting

I say this to every pupil who gets in my car.

I will teach you to drive first.
Only when you can drive safely, independently and consistently will we talk about a test.
If that does not fit your expectations, then I am not the instructor for you.

Too many people want the quick route.
Minimal hours.
Fast pass.
In and out.
Rush it.
Hope for the best.

That mindset is dangerous.
It is careless.
It is how people end up in situations they never saw coming because nobody taught them the real skills, the judgment, the awareness, the instinct.

This is not a tick-box exercise.
This is a ton of moving metal on a public road with lives at stake.
Your life.
Your passengers’ lives.
Other people’s children.
Other people’s families.

Cutting your training down to the bare minimum does not make you smart.
It makes you unprepared.

The test doesn’t make you safe.
Good training does.
Good habits do.
Time behind the wheel does.
Real instruction does.

So if you’re looking for an instructor who will sign you off after the smallest number of lessons just to keep you happy!

There are plenty of people who will take your money and hand you false confidence.

I’m not one of them.

I train drivers, not box-tickers.

I will not apologise for putting safety first ever.

Are you really ready?

Are you really up to standard?

You may think that you are driving well when the instructor is:

Telling you when to speed up or slow down.

Helping you by grabbing the steering wheel.

Helping to stop the car for you with the dual control.

Reminding you to read the road signs and the road markings.

Reminding you how to read the satnav.

Reminding you to check your blind spots.

Asking you what the speed limit is.

Talking you through one or every manoeuvre.

Telling you which lane to be in.

Reminding you which exit to come off of on a roundabout because you forget.

Helping you when you can’t work whether there is enough space for you to get your car through.

Sound familiar?

If all or any of the above apply to you, then you are not test ready.

When the door shuts and it’s just you and the examiner, the car is the loneliest place to be and when you make a mistake, your brain turns to jelly and the car starts to do things you can’t control, things are going to turn pretty bad, pretty fast.

In the worst case scenarios, the examiner can stop the test and walk away, leaving you alone, with the car.

The examiner isn’t allowed to help you.

Your instructor is at the test centre.

Your phone is turned off and you can’t Google the answer or phone a friend.

Remember, those family and friends who urge you to just have a go for the ‘experience, ‘ aren’t the ones having to go through it, people have very selective memory when it comes to driving tests.

Ask anyone who has failed a test if it was a nice experience!

It’s just you out there.

Nobody else.

So you had better be sure that you know what you’re doing.

If you are up to standard, you will still be nervous, but you won’t be doubtful of your ability!

Think, before you blow it.

You aren’t being told no because we need the work, our waiting list is huge, your slot could easily be filled, we’re saying no because we want the best for you.

Make sure you’re prepared and make it a first time pass.

Pretty much sums it up 😂🤷

We receive phone calls every single day that sound like this: ⬇️

👉 “I’ve got my test booked next week, can I just have a lesson and borrow your car for the test?”
👉 Or worse… “I don’t need lessons, I’ll give you £500 if you let me take your car on the test.”

🚫 We are not a car hire service.

Our instructors training vehicle will only go to test when their students are confident, safe, skilled, and fully test ready.

It doesn’t matter how many hours you’ve clocked elsewhere or how many people have told you “you’re ready.” Until we have assessed you, we are unable to allow you the use of one if our vehicles.

🔑 Here’s why:

Parents, friends, and family can teach you to “get from A to B” but they often prompt, guide, or correct along the way. That’s not independence.

A driving test is about showing you can drive safely on your own. No nudges, no hints, no “Bob’s your uncle, you’ll be fine.”

Professional lessons are structured, graded, and consistent that’s how you prove test-readiness.

Sometimes pupils think “just a couple of hours” will do. The reality? The gaps we find can be huge.

It’s our responsibility not just to you, but to the examiner, to the public, and to everyone on the road to make sure you are genuinely safe before a test car is provided.

🚦 So please, listen to the experts.
We’re not here to make things difficult. We’re here to make sure you:

✅ Walk out of that test centre with a licence you’ve earned.

✅ Leave with confidence you can trust.

✅ Stay safe on the road for life.
