CarReg’s Highest-Value Registration Sales

A look inside CarReg’s sales history of high-value private registrations

There is no single formula for determining the value of a private registration. Rarity, age, character count, memorable combinations, initials, names and simply how desirable a particular number feels to a buyer can all play a part.

But perhaps the most useful measure of value is what somebody has actually paid.

The SuperPlate " U 1 " Is Now Available!
This extremely rare number plate was first issued way back in 1903 by Leeds County Council. We have the full history on hand
Indicating that Rowland Winn, a motoring pioneer and founding member of the Automobile Association bought the U 1 plate, which was the very first registration issued in Leeds.

When Arthur Currer Briggs became Lord Mayor of Leeds in that same year, Winn gifted U 1 to Briggs for use on the civic vehicle.
Since then, the plate U 1 has been used (in one form or another) on the official Lord Mayor vehicle of Leeds.

VERY IMPORTANT!
Please check the expiry date of any cherished/personalised/private registrations held on government V750/V778 entitlement or retention certificates!

Any registration held on an expired certificate will be permanently revoked, meaning you could lose your private number plate for good and there are no exceptions to be able to renew after the date of expiry!

If you own a personalised registration number that is currently held on a DVLA certificate (V750 or V778) rather than in use registered to a vehicle, it’s vital you check its expiry date before its too late.
