Ferrari 246 Dino Recommission 👌🏻
This car has been a bit of a long term project at The Supercar Tech. The customer was in no rush for it back and wanted to make sure everything that needed to be done, was done. After covering very few miles since a restoration many years ago, we were asked to do a full service and check over on this beautiful 1972 Dino.
On the face of it there was little to report, however once the engine was running and up to temp we found coolant pooling on the cylinder head around cylinder 1. This coolant was seeping through a slight hairline crack in the cylinder head which meant a partial engine strip so we could send the head off to be inspected and a laser weld repair to be carried out.
Once the head was back to us we started the rebuild only to find one of the front camshaft caps would not sit flush when torqued down, further investigation revealed a previous repair to the cap stud which was breaking down and caused a split in the head where the camshaft sits! The only option for this was to remove the complete head again for another repair.
Most of the cooling system components were also replaced due to the housings and rubber hoses deteriorating from the inside out. The Radiator was also replaced and upgraded along with a full set of brake hoses, replacement steering rack, wheel bearing and various other components.
A long term recommission that was a total pleasure and so worth it 😍
