I have just completed another 3 Boost Bike e-bike conversions.

# 31 Enigma Titanium
# 32 Carrera MTB
# 33 Raleigh Strada

#31 The Enigma was in lovely condition and very light with its titanium frame. The bike had a set of 28 spoke Hunt wheels. Hunt, as far as I could find out, does not offer 32 hole rims. The Boost rear hub motor is a 32 hole hub so a suitable alternative rim had to be found. My customer opted for a DT Swiss RR521db rim which maintains the quality aesthetics of the bike. There was a modest up-lift in the cost of the new rim but fits in well with the premium fit of the bike.

#32 The Carrera MTB had seen better days and required a bit of ‘fettling’. New gear cables, a pair of Schwallbe Energizer Plus tyres and the necessary spacers for the 7 speed cassette worked out well. Although changing gear cables on ‘Twist Grip’ shifters is a bit of a challenge compared to standard lever shifters, I got there in the end. A thorough de-greasing, re-lubricating and clean up made an old tired bike look fresh again. I have to say, it rides really well.

#33 The Raleigh Strada Hybrid bike was a pleasure to work on. The owner had fitted new brake calipers and pads for this ‘Rim Brake’ bike and they worked spot on. The chain was getting a bit tired so the customer requested a new one. I find KMC chains to be good quality and value. All in all I think this was my smoothest ‘hassle free’ conversion yet and it rides really well.

Red Door Boost Bike Conversion Number 30 !!! 🚴‍♀️

Specilized Rock Hopper MTB

The Rock Hopper arrived in a ‘well used’ condition and required a bit of 'fettling'. I replaced the chain, new cables, spacers for the 8-speed cassette, new derailleur hangar and the bike was ready to receive the Boost conversion.

The Specilazied Rock Hopper has a low cross bar but there was enough room to install the Boost battery, cradle/controller.

Red Door Boost Bike Conversion Numbers 25, 26, 27 !!! 🚴‍♀️

I have been out of action for a few weeks. Since my last post I have completed another 3 Boost Bike e-bike conversions.

# 25 Carrera Vulcan MTB
# 26 Planet Tempest Gravel
# 27 Giant Liv Alight

The Carrera Vulcan arrived in a ‘well used’ condition but brushed up OK for another happy customer. (See before and after video).

The Planet Tempest proved to be a bit of a challenge with its electronic gear shift and titanium through axle frame. At first, I couldn’t get the new ‘Red Door Hand Built’ Boost wheel to spin freely without the disc rotor rubbing on the outside rear brake pad. It turned out to be the ‘ICE’ Shimano disc rotor that had a central aluminium boss designed to help heat dissipation from the disc rotor under heavy braking. The central boss recess was creating a 2mm stand off from the Boost motor which was pushing the disc rotor out just enough to cause the disc to rub. I swapped the disc rotor for a ’flat’ Shimano and this fixed the problem. One to watch out for in future.

The Giant Liv had a low cross bar but there was enough room to install the Boost battery, cradle/controller. The customer chose to upgrade the rear tyre to a Schwalbe Marathon Plus puncture resistant tyre.

Red Door Boost Bike Conversion Number 23!!! 🚴‍♀️

Just completed my 23rd Boost e-bike conversion, transforming a pristine Spa Cycles Titanium Road Bike into an electrifying ride! I installed a custom-built 700c x 19mm Boost wheel, accommodating future wider tyres as per my customer's request. I retained the original tyre, tube, rim tape, and cassette from the donor wheel, with just a minor tweak to the 2 x 11 speed gears.

After a thorough test ride, working through gears and power modes, this bike remains impressively lightweight—perfect for mounting on a standard car bike rack or lifting over obstacles with ease.

Red Door Boost Bike Conversion Number 22!!!

Just handed over my 22nd Boost e-bike conversion on this immaculate and well cared for Giant Contend SL'

I built a new 700c x 16 mm Boost wheel to match the original front wheel. Tyre, tube, rim tape and cassette were re-used from the donor wheel. No indexing of the gears was required, they all clicked first time without any adjustment.
