Around a year ago the Vw Audi (seat and Skoda) group removed the 5 year recommendation across the board for their timing belt intervals. While thier intentions are not very clear it was after complaints from the public due to the cost and the low failure rate. This is classed as a wear and tear item and won’t be covered by the Vw Audi group up to the absurd 150k mile unlimited age recommendation.

We have continued to follow thier old 5 year recommendations when advising customers on thier servicing.

Pictured below is a 2018 (6years old) tdi Caddy van with 57k miles on it. Albeit rare we have seen similar and worse before. Often when these belts go the damage can render the vehicle uneconomical to repair.

Our Vw parts supplier offers huge discount to trade customers specifically on the 1.6 and 2.0 tdi engine model timing belt kits and we can pass that saving onto the customer giving a little extra peace of mind to have genuine parts fitted.
