Want to know how much we have spent on rescuing this Maeving Electric Motorbike? It was only £600 from salvage auction but we had to spend £'s on it - was it a bargain or a money pit?

Maeving RM1 Review & For Sale – The Ultimate Urban “Cheat Code”?

Since we started the EV RESCUES series, we’ve seen a lot of interest in the Maeving RM1. It’s easy to see why—with its 1920s board-tracker styling and British engineering, it’s one of the most distinctive bikes on the road. After successfully rescuing this 2023 model in our workshop, we took it out through the streets of Durham to see if the reality lives up to the retro-cool aesthetic....

EV RESCUES Ep 1: The £600 Maeving Gamble – Scrap or Steal?

What would you do if you saw a 2023 electric motorcycle listed for a fraction of its retail price at a salvage auction? Most people would see a "Non-Runner" label and walk away, fearing a four-figure battery replacement. But here at Kinghorn Electric Vehicles, we see an opportunity for a rescue. In the debut episode of our new series, EV RESCUES, we headed to Peterlee to pick up a Maeving RM1 that the previous owner had given up on....

100 MPG Is an Engineering Triumph — But Electric Cars Can Do It for Less I recently watched a brilliant video from Autocar, where one of their writers sets out to answer a deceptively simple question: Can an old diesel car really average 100 miles per gallon in the real world? The car is an Audi A2 1.4 TDI…...

Just a thought…
If the government is genuinely serious about getting to Net Zero and raising the tax revenue it keeps saying we need, shouldn’t we at least be looking at jet fuel?

Right now jet fuel pays no VAT and no fuel duty. Nothing.
Meanwhile car drivers pay both, and they’re even talking about a 3p-per-mile tax on electric cars — the one thing that actually helps us cut emissions. It makes no sense.

Plane travel is a luxury for most people, and aviation is one of the biggest polluters we have. Why is that the sector getting the tax break?

Rough numbers:
• Adding VAT to jet fuel would bring in around £2 billion a year
• Putting fuel duty on it (like we pay on petrol and diesel) could raise another £8–9 billion
So potentially £10–11.5 billion in total.

Compare that to the EV tax idea, which would raise about £0.5 billion.

If the government really wants Net Zero and extra revenue, surely taxing jet fuel properly should come before taxing people for driving electric cars.
