This Ford Kuga came into us with a head gasket failure, but upon stripping the car down, unfortunately two of the cylinder head bolts snapped on removal.

This is one of those hidden issues that cannot be seen until the engine is stripped down. Removing the broken bolts safely meant spending an additional two hours carefully drilling the bolts out to avoid causing further damage and enabling us to remove the cylinder head.

As shown in the video, we carried out a ‘sniff’ test on the cylinder head to check for exhaust gases 🔧

You can clearly see the fluid change from yellow to blue, which confirms the presence of carbon dioxide in the system. This is a strong indication that the vehicle has overheated and may have a head gasket issue.

If you’re experiencing overheating or loss of coolant, don’t ignore it — getting it checked early can save you from bigger repairs down the line.
