Right. I've had enough now. I am sick and tired of having to put my life at risk every time I go for a walk. My dog was nearly run over by a Deliveroo rider this evening, riding along at about 20 mph, in the dark, along a pavement (Bowling Alley Walk - the clue is in the name) in Dorchester. This is not the first time I've had to jump out of the way of a cyclist, scooter rider, electric scooter rider (which are illegal to use in the UK anyway - except on private land with the landowner's permission or as part of a DVSA Approved rental scheme) mobility scooter or even someone on a skateboard. In fact I had to avoid two other cyclists on South Walks this evening. There are shared paths for cyclists and pedestrians and there are pavements where these vehicles should not be used. Agreed - there are places where it is not really made clear whether bicycles are allowed or not. As a cyclist myself, if I'm not sure cycling is allowed I don't cycle there. If a cyclist is sharing a route with cyclists they should be considerate of pedestrians and SLOW DOWN! It would also be good if they HAD A BELL! Or just give some audible warning (how about "Excuse me"? ) when coming up behind pedestrians.
Rule 64 in the Highway Code: You MUST NOT cycle on a pavement.
