Understanding Windscreen Damage
Before diving into the repair process, it's important to understand the different types of windscreen damage. The most common types include:
Chips: Small, round impacts typically caused by stones or debris hitting the windscreen. Chips are usually less than an inch in diameter and can often be repaired if caught early.
Cracks: Cracks are longer, linear breaks in the glass that can range from a few inches to several feet long. A crack might begin as a small chip but can spread over time due to temperature changes or stress.
Star Breaks: A type of chip that radiates outward in a star-like pattern, often caused by an impact from a small rock or debris. These can sometimes be repaired if the damage is small.
Bullseye: A type of chip where a small circular break forms in the windshield, creating a bullseye shape. Similar to star breaks, these can often be repaired if the damage isn’t too severe.
Combination Breaks: A mixture of different types of damage on the same area of the windscreen, often a combination of chips and cracks. Repairing combination breaks is more challenging, but SGR are 'repair only' experts.
