What's going on here then? Well, just a few short weeks ago, the DVSA authorised LUT to to carry out 3a tests (Reversing manoeuvre) for all categories of HGV. So, this is me carrying out my first 3a test as LUT. I used to do these for my previous employer, so it's not new to me. But a nice milestone doing them myself.

In other news, we are picking up the replacement for the van on Saturday. There's about as much room in the boot for a bag of Haribo, but thats fine, as I luuurve Haribo.

The van that got me sacked, the first vehicle to join LUT, get stickered up and get an LUT plate is moving on. I wouldn't normally get emotionally attached to a van, but I am a bit and will be sad to see it go.
If you want to know how it got me sacked though, read on.
Summer 2022 is when we got the van as my commuter to work and a taxi for the pooches, Poppy and Juno. Feb 2023 is when I handed my notice in, I was fully transparent telling them that I was setting up on my own as an HGV training provider. A couple of weeks into my notice period, I had the van stickered up to advertise our new venture and carried on using it to get to work. My boss at the time got wind of it and subsequently flipped out in her typical style and and sacked me over Teams for gross misconduct. There is a fair bit more to this story which is really quite amusing. I was happy with this as I had so much still to do to get LUT off the ground and carrying out HGV driver training for someone else was just a massive inconvenience for me. Plus, no longer having to deal with the corporate BS that comes with working for people, or person that have never delivered driver training, but think they know it all was good. So off I went, never to look back. The best move I've ever made work wise.
But, sad to see the van go.

I often ask students how they found me, but more importantly, why they chose me. Most say that they made the decision to use me after reading some of my reviews. It's a really important part of that decision making process and gives potential students confidence when booking, that they are going to get a good service. Receiving positive reviews helps me keep busy, it also makes me warm and fuzzy inside when I read them. So a massive thank you to anyone that has left me a review.

Reviews can be read on Facebook and Google Maps, so if you are currently thinking about who to use for your HGV driver training, please have a look.

Here's a Tuesday top tip. When following your Sat Nav in your truck, if you don't like the look of the road it's trying to send you down, don't do it. Today, Google Maps sent us a few miles down a gravel track to be met by a padlocked gate. I like an adventure, so off we went. Our poor hire car wasnt impressed, neither were my passengers as I embraced my inner rally driver. 😂

Here's my Sunday photo dump. A busy 3 days followed by getting on one of those flying things. Don't look at the photos if you're a vegetarian. Ha. Thanks to GD Proglaze for fitting a new windscreen to Daftny. Well done again to Rob on his Cat C pass.
Still get in touch for any HGV driver training enquiries, I will still reply, unless I'm in the pool.

Here's a new feature, it's going to be called Marks Sunday afternoon dump. Get your minds out of the gutter, dump of photos. Just a few pictures of last weeks adventures.
Looks like a pretty uneventful week to be fair. I'll try harder next week.

8 short days ago, Lee unfortunately impeded another vehicle on his test which gave him a serious fault. Today, at his 2nd attempt he smashed it with just 2 driver faults. So a massive well done to Lee, he has gone from car straight to the big stuff.

If you don't do the business at the first attempt, I'll get you back in as soon as possible. But if we're doing it on a Saturday, you'd better pass, I don't work Saturdays for anything other than passes. Ha ha.

Every pass is satisfying, and I enjoy sharing the joy of passing with all my students. This one was a bit more satisfying than others. If you want to know more about Joel's journey, please read on.

Firstly, a massive well done to Joel on passing his Cat C test at the first attempt. Well deserved after the week we have just had.

We started Monday, the goal to begin with was a C+E novice course. Day 1 and 2 went well, we boxed off the reverse manouvre, the uncouple/recouple and we got a good few hours of driving done. Once we started to cover more difficult routes, Joel started to struggle with positioning the trailer and found himself concentrating that hard on positioning, he was frequently not focusing on other vital parts of driving. We persevered until Thursday morning, and after discussing options, we decided it would be in Joel's best interest to switch to Cat C. Immediately Joel felt more relaxed in the C and was driving at a much better standard. This decision wasn't taken lightly and I left this as late as possible in case it all started clicking in the C+E. It was the right decision as Joel has come away from his week with me with a Cat C licence, it could've quite easily been nothing at all. Joel can now go and get some Cat C driving experience and revisit gaining his C+E licence at a later date.

Car to artic is a massive undertaking, and on rare occasions we have to take steps to ensure the student is ready for the test by adding more hours, or rescheduling the test. In Joel's case, he works away a lot, so more hours/rescheduling wasn't a viable option. So, I'm very happy with how Joel's journey ended.

If you want to come on a journey with me, get in touch.

Attention Farmers and Land Owners. I'm looking for a place where my old trailer can sit and watch traffic go by whilst enjoying retirement. She needs a good view where she can also be seen by the passes by. Ideally along the M18 between Junction 4 and the M62, or from the M18/M62 junction towards Leeds. But will consider other options where she can be highly visible.

Please get in touch if you think you can give her a good home. Please share if you think you may have friends that can.

Thank you.
