👉1976 vs Today: The Roads We’ve Travelled…

In 1976, Devizes drivers were rolling on cross‑ply tyres, carburettor engines, and exhausts that rattled if you looked at them funny. 😬

🚫No ABS. No traction control. No fancy sensors. Just grit, steel, and a good garage you could trust.
Fifty years later, tyres grip better, last longer, and keep families safer than ever. Exhausts are cleaner, quieter, and built to protect the air we breathe.

☝️But one thing hasn’t changed: Devizes still needs a garage that does things properly.
Checkpoint has been that constant since 1976.

Independent then. Independent now.💪

Still here. Still local. Still proud.

Keep watching… our 50‑year celebrations are just warming up.

We end the week with another National Day this Friday, it’s Fire Prevention Day 🧯

Fire Prevention Day…

We haven’t ever really touched on car fires, but there are around 100,000 cars each year, and they make up 29% of all the primary fires attended in England.😒

Most accidental car fires begin here due to:
👉 Electrical faults
👉 Fuel leaks
👉 Oil leaks contacting hot surfaces
👉 Overheating components

Here’s how to keep your motor safe:
➡️Get your battery checked
➡️Fix oil or fuel leaks ASAP
➡️Keep the engine bay clean (leaves, straw and mud can ignite on hot exhausts)
➡️Don’t ignore overheating, pull over and let it cool
➡️Avoid cheap electrics and overloaded chargers
➡️Check tyre pressures & brakes, heat from friction can cause fires
➡️Store fuel safely if you carry it for mowers or farm kit
➡️Regular servicing catches the faults that turn into fires

A few simple checks can make a massive difference, especially as we head into colder months.
If you want a quick battery test, tyre check or safety once over, swing by Checkpoint Tyres. Local garage. Local people. Keeping Devizes safe on the roads.

Winter Prep Starts in October ❄️

Most breakdowns happen in winter…
➡️ January and February have the highest breakdown rates of any month.
➡️ Breakdowns rise 11%+ in winter compared to other seasons.
➡️ Cold weather is directly responsible for spikes in battery, tyre and engine failures.

This is the month to get ahead: tyres, brakes, battery, lights, fluids, all the boring-but-essential stuff that keeps you moving when the weather turns.

👍We’re your local team for honest checks, quick fixes and proper advice.
No upselling. No nonsense.

Just keeping Devizes rolling, safely, into winter.☃️

October = darker commutes + heavier rain = visibility becomes everything.👀

⚠️ If your wipers smear, your lights look like candles, or your screen wash is basically water… you’re making life harder than it needs to be.

Swing by; we’ll sort wipers, bulbs, screenwash and basic checks.👍

See more. Be seen. Stay safe.

Simple wins for autumn driving.

Every year, as soon as the temperature drops, the same debate kicks off: Should UK drivers switch to winter tyres… or is it a waste of money?

✅ FOR: They reduce stopping distances on cold, wet roads
❌ AGAINST : Upfront cost can be off putting
🤷 INDIFFERENT : For town only drivers, the difference might be minimal
what do YOU think?

Do winter tyres make a real difference on our rural Wiltshire roads?
Or are all‑season tyres good enough for most people?

Drop your thoughts below, FOR, AGAINST, or INDIFFERENT.

Let’s settle this once and for all.

We can’t really tell what the weather's going to do from minute to minute, but we can offer some words of warning…⚠️⚠️⚠️

☂️When the rain hits…

Wet October roads get greasy, leaves turn into skid pans, and worn tyres show their true colours.
If your tread is low, it’s a not the best way to find out. Check your tread regularly.

If you’re not sure what to look at pop in for a quick tyre check. 👍

It’s free, it’s fast, and it keeps you safe.
👉Local garage. 👉Local people. 👉Local roads.

Let’s stay safe this autumn.
